Surfing was a far cry away from Penelope's typical line of hobbies. Because of work, whenever she had a moment to spare, it wasn't to be spent outside in the hot ass hoenn weather. So, when Splashfest came into town, she expected most of her time to be clinging to CIAN MAHER and enjoying the small NONSPORT-RELATED events.

So, like, how do people do this again? The Mantine is slippery, the water is cold, and Luka has no idea what she's doing. But it looks fun...assuming she can manage to get at least one trick right![break][break] As she watches the other participants perform elegant arial leaps, she makes sure to tighten the strings on her bikini top. And then the bottoms as well. Can't be too careful...[break][break]

apparently... kind of hard.

she looks confused, flustered, and easily irritated by the second time she's fallen off. and with a little grunt, she's shoving herself back up onto the mantine to try again.

third time's the charm, right?

keeping her balance enough to feel more comfortable, illeana lets out a shaky exhale and leans into trying a trick. going for gold with the hardest one really might not even pay off but she's down to clown today.

Josh was quite impressed with the sheer quantity of Mantine and the number of experienced surfers on hand. While he was good with controlling Pokémon, he only had a ton of practice doing so with a Pokémon that a rider sat on, not stood on. This would be a serious adjustment, but the only way to find out his skill level was to try! He reviewed video footage of the six tricks before deciding he would attempt them in ascending order of difficulty.

Once he was satisfied, Josh climbed aboard one of the Mantine. Though his balance from racing helped substantially, it required so much more effort to control the Water-type from a standing position. He took a lap or two around the area before accelerating into a steep wave, then banking hard into a HUNTAIL SPIN that made him dizzy during the finishing maneuver.

After spending the early afternoon at Round One Arcade in Slateport's south district, Shalin decided the best way to cool off from intense Step Step Revolution play was to relax at the beach and enjoy the festival. After all, given Hoenn's recent happenings, this may be the last time she could truly relax! It was best to make the most of it.

The first attraction that caught Shalin's eye was the Mantine Surfing area. The wave generator they had going way in the back was enormous! She saw several others trying to pull off six tricks detailed on the festival's website. Rather than watch video demonstrations, she learned best by doing. With a nod, she settled into the Maneine's harness designed to keep her steady while standing. It was certainly an adjustment, but not one that would take her long.

The blonde's hair whipped in the wind as she got her Mantine up to speed and climbed the first wave, leaning hard to her right to execute a GOREBYSS SPIRAL.

Even so, he'd never exactly mounted a MANTINE as a surfboard before. This required more than one's own skill, of course. Like a Rapidash and its rider, it demanded teamwork and an unspoken connection.

The one-eyed blonde would do his best to form this connection as he mounted the manta ray, gently patting its back before they zoomed off to ride a wave. When he felt the moment was right, he would attempt a move he'd only ever seen on TV once or twice.

It had been a long time since Angelo had been Mantine surfing with Nereid. Longer still, since he'd had the dream that had nudged him towards the activity, coasting and defying gravity on sun dappled waves.

Participating in Mantine Surfing was a reprieve from the hustle and bustle that had become his life. Although there's no doubt simply being in attendance would be good for business.
