The younger man seemed to materialize out of nowhere, arms raised, sweaty, shirtless again — did Jack prefer to go topless as much as possible, or was it just the increased heat of that summer? Zev forced out an amused smirk.

"I guess," he replied, shouting back over the cacophony of music and cheers. "I don't know it."

And then Jack was whipping his shirt in the air, almost to the beat of the song. Zev blinked a few times with the mild alarm of someone who clearly did not go to concerts.

"I saw you walking the runway for the swimsuit contest," Zev said, still shouting. "You think you'll win?"

Casey grinned madly, casting his narrow eyes to the sky. He just got out of the hospital, only to hear that there's a meteor? That dahlia goode was reassuring everyone that the league would fight it? Why, this was the sort of thing that separated men from boys. He wanted to fight the meteor himself, or die trying. To feel that heat like the sun that kissed his face and neck so, but times a thousand. And then, Melody Miro got a promotion? Wow! His eyes lit up. He'd have to find her later. He was just vibrating with joy.

But right now, he sat at the bar, asking for a ginger ale. .”It's like... a medicinal soda. Y'know.” Drinking was behind him. That wasn't to say that he didn't partake in any substances. Why, he had a curious looking square of what looked like paper on his tongue. It felt like all of his pores were hit with a taser, but there he sat. Sat in his band shirt and little neoprene bicycle shorts, and bulky black work boots.

Matias' string of bad luck was just beginning, though. As he approached the bar, he could see a tall, muscular man. A man who on further inspection had an angular face, smooth skin and scarlet hair, who looked like if Melody was a boy. This man turned to face him, and waved him over with an outstretched hand and a gentle smile.

To be completely honest, Tam isn't exactly sure how he ended up in this concert. One minute he was walking around Slateport beach, the next he was going along with the crowd, and then he was here.

Marshall arrived late to the concert, only catching the last parts of dahlia goode's speech. He looked around the growing crowd as onlookers either booed or cheered, unsure what exactly what they were reacting to. Something about the meteor approaching Hoenn?

It mattered little to Marshall by the time Melody Miro took the stage. He cheered with the rest of them, bursting into song with everyone else whenever he remembered the lyrics.

"Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive!" Marshall belted out with everything he had. Was he a good singer? It didn't matter. "I've got all my life to live, and I've got all my love to give, and I'll survive, I will survive, hey hey!"

Glancing around again, Marshall couldn't see any faces he recognized — at least, not yet. He was in a packed part of the audience. Maybe if he moved? Still singing at the top of his lungs, he slipped between some strangers as he kept his eyes open for friends.

And what do you know, Tam Fawley was there, looking completely unaffected by the energy of the concert.

"TAAAAAM!" Marshall shouted as he approached the other man, hoping he was loud enough to be heard over the music.

A sigh of relief escaped Elinor as she found some comfortable seating in the VIP area. It was much less crowded here than among those less fortunate, those who had to mingle in front of the stage. Alas, she was spared the tormenting noise of far too many people on far too little space, while still offering a perfect view of the stage.

A pink bow-tie-wearing Bagon jumped onto her lap, resting comfortably against the smooth fabric of the red floral summer dress she had changed into. It began to play with the VIP pass that hung around her neck, while Elinor watched their beloved Commissioner dahlia goode walk on stage.

Elinor watched and listened, leisurely swirling the colorful content of the drink she had acquired before sitting down. She didn't give much of an outward reaction, keeping a slightly tired look on her face, though she was honestly impressed by how Dahlia handled the whole thing. She had done her research by now, what information she could glean had already been gleaned. And so she had already accepted what had to be done. But she did not envy Dahlia’s position right now nor the position of those who had to listen to the speech.

Their reactions were understandable, futile as they might be. Luckily entertainment was sent out to ease the minds of the plebian horde. And it seemed to work to some degree. While Elinor enjoyed the music of Melody Miro, what caught her attention was the callout for MATIAS SILPH. Given the lyrics it seemed, there was some feud between the two.

She would have to inquire about this at a later time. For now. She would simply sit and enjoy the show, sipping her drink and patting the dragon Pokémon on her lap.

dahlia goode's speech sets the mood for the rest of the event, or at least, that's what kyle hopes. every whining thread he reads on the internet was just a headache, especially when people he knows from the civilian side links it to him through his personal social media.

kyle claps at Melody Miro's song, thinking nothing much of the commentary outside of friendly banter with MATIAS SILPH, and was just enjoying the festival with his good ol' buddy pal FERNANDO SILPH. he's chilling out here, and the first thing to invoke emotion and reaction was fernando's statement.

"wait, they had a fight?"

despite being close friends with both, he somehow just wasn't able to connect it. for the longest time, he just thought they had different schedules brought by being functioning adults of society.

how come no one talks to him when people get some personal thing happen to them? kyle feels left out for a moment before he springs into questioning, realizing that they'll probably give him some reason he doesn't care about.

"i can take a few guesses, but what did they fight about?"

contrary to popular belief, being champion doesn't mean you get to know the in's and out's of typical life at the league hq.

Of all the sponsors and all the events at the Slateport Splashfest, her modest little non-local small business was the one that was billed as the sponsor for one of the biggest and most popular events! She couldn't help feeling both ecstatic and thankful for the opportunity to be part of the Mainstage event in a visible and beneficial way.

On opening day, she had a small booth set up next to the entrance and security check area, prepared to promote the Iron Lady Forge. A large banner depicting a rather adorable image of a Flareon next to the forge's name in fiery red lettering hung from the top of the booth, while a cast-metal sign that she'd hand-forged herself with the insignia of the forge swung from a horizontal post. She had leaflets and brochures full of information and photos, a few samples of her most eye-catching knives and bladed products on display, and a poster describing the bladesmithing process that any ten-year-old would be proud of, as well as crates containing bottles of water with miniature versions of the Flareon banner as the label. Hydration was important, after all, especially at a concert!

In short, Aurelie was ready. Of course, given her nonexistent salesmanship skills, she still wasn't sure she was ready enough. After the stroke of good fortune that had landed her here at the Mainstage, though, she was definitely motivated to capitalize on it as much as she could.

From her vantage post far from the stage, she'd had to strain her ears to catch most of dahlia goode's opening speech before the concert began. The League commissioner was obviously a practiced public speaker, and her words came across as both comforting and inspiring, even at this distance. As she listened, though, Aurelie's lips twisted in a faint smirk of amusement.

If Rocket is supposed to be all about technology and thievery, then it feels like the League is taking a page out of Rocket's book, she thought, unconsciously echoing the views that others had expressed already. After all, here they are using technology to steal something! Specifically, the peace and safety of this supposed other world that they can somehow send the catastrophic meteoroid to. They're taking those things from them and giving it to us.

Wiping a bead of sweat tricking down her forehead, she grimaced and shaded her single eye from the Hoennian sun overhead. I can't wait to hear how they plan to deal with this weird impenetrable barrier next, she thought sardonically, recalling how said barrier was thought to be responsible for the heat wave this summer. Starting worldwide earthquakes? Contacting aliens? Asking Rocket for help? Who knows?

Then her attention was drawn back to her booth as a pair of tourists wandered over, looking curious. Aurelie pasted on a friendly smile and began her spiel again. "Hello! How can I help you? Would you like to learn more about my business, the Iron Lady Forge?

Was it possible that the event had become even more crowded? Elisabeth released the tiniest sigh of displeasure as she resumed drinking her mojito. A tiny umbrella sat on the rim, a bright and tropical addition that the florist hadn't seen fit to discard.

To Felix Gallagher's question about the speech, Elisabeth shrugged. "What else is the woman going to say?" was her dry retort. "Don't enjoy your summer? Stew in your own dread and malcontent?"

Her stare lingered on several of the faces present, some she recognized with a tilt of her head (Was that Martín del Mar and BARNABY FINCH in the VIP area? So that was still going on, then), while others she pointedly avoided focusing on for too long. The sound of people chatting, booing, singing, and cheering overlapped, becoming a cacophony of white noise.

"There's nothing she could say to please this mass of people. Nothing she can do to deflect from the reality that there is a meteor crashing towards us, and no matter what measure we take to stop it, there will be some unhappy compromise in the doing of it."

She plucked the umbrella at last from her glass, examining it.

"That's the way of politics. I don't envy the commissioner her role, nor do I begrudge her for choosing the position she has. Better another region than ours. Better another reality than ours, too."

A good distraction indeed. From all the horrors, from all the struggle, from all the uncertainty. Sometimes, things like those are needed. Say what you will about the League, but dahlia goode understands that fundamental fact about keeping her citizens under control. Situations like those affecting Hoenn right now are bound to result in unrest, and if all the people ever hear is about how bad things are and what things the League intends to do to fix them, then they will all be unhappy. At least this way those most foolish can remain distracted and pleased. Good play.

Of course, Mars doesn’t voice all those thoughts to BARNABY FINCH. They’re not things meant to be said here and now. After all, they too had come to have a good time and enjoy the show, especially considering that one of Mars’ own good friends is on the stage, pouring her heart into a song. Seriously, what had happened to her?

Eris Halla’s appearance distracts him from his worries about Melody Miro, and a light laugh inevitably rises when seeing her and Reiner covered in sand. Honestly, they too are a good distraction.

”Not at all, Eris.” A smile comes naturally, and he does not miss the fact that Barnaby had called her ’mon chou’, which is absolutely fucking adorable. ”Do you and Reiner want to sit with us? Melody is doing great, huh? I hadn’t seen her perform since New Year’s.”

That one had been a much different performance, and somehow, it now feels like half a lifetime had passed since that day. Too much has changed.
