The clinking of silverware and the tantalising aroma of exquisitely prepared food has characterized this interim time of the Winter Masquerade. With the ballroom open, the exhibits showcased, and now dinner enjoyed by all, there is a sense of peace that accompanies the event, winding down towards its inevitable conclusion.[break][break]

Some, like and @albrecht, enjoy the wonders of the butterfly gardens, where stunning Bug-type Pokemon loaned by flutter about with star-kissed wings. Others, like and , make use of the quieter dancefloor away from the grander spectacle of the ballroom. And others still merely sit to enjoy one another's company to dine, such as and , while strangers like and become newfound companions over a shared meal.[break][break]

The joy of a masquerade is in the mystery, and perhaps it is in the wearing of masks that so much of tonight's events can happen at all. Alas, all good things must come to an end.


FINAL FAREWELLS



FINAL HOUR


The masked coordinator rings a bell, announcing that the final hour of the masquerade is upon you. When it ends, all attendees will be expected to leave the National Museum of Natural History.[break][break]

Those who have been drinking heavier than otherwise are not to fret, as drawn-sleighs of Glaceon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon -- courtesy of Gym Leader -- are available outside the museum to lead guests home.[break][break]


However, you will not be leaving empty-handed! Various dessert trays have been wheeled in to take as you depart, complete with small goody-bags to thank you for your part in donating to this charity event. You are encouraged to take one with you.[break][break]

As you depart, the flashing light of RotomTV's paparazzi will be there to document your exit, eager for news of who has attended and what has transpired during tonight's mysterious event. Will you share your thoughts with them before you leave?[break][break]

The orchestra prepares its final songs; the ephemeral once-in-a-lifetime exhibits shall soon close; the masks will soon fall, revealing all present for who they really are.[break][break]

FAQ


1) Can I join even if I wasn't in round one?[break]
Yes! You're free to join this event at any point of its duration![break][break]

2) My spin-offs aren't complete/my interactions in the megathread are running slow! What do I do?[break]
You can always communicate with your partner how you'd like to leave the interaction, but there's nothing wrong with quickly summarizing events in a post in order to free yourself up to do something new. We encourage you to do so, actually![break][break]

3) Is there anything closed in the event now (Insectarium/Exhibits/Ballroom)?[break]
Nope! Everything is open until I close the event on February 10th. Feel free to dance, to visit exhibits, to eat in the Insectarium, or whatever else![break][break]

4) I can't seem to find a dance partner![break]
We recommend asking on Discord if anyone is looking to pair up, or alternatively, indicating in your TLDRs that you are open to being danced with! You can of course also simply ask IC and see what response you get.[break][break]

5) Can I recognize other masked people IC? I'm not sure how to interact.[break]
The best method is always to ask the writer of the character how noticeable they want to be! However, we strongly encourage indicating in your TLDRs or in your posts themselves how recognizable you want your character to be.[break][break]

6) What happens if we don't fulfill all the prompts?[break]
The event will continue as usual; it will simply affect the types of rewards you earn at the end of the round. That's literally all they're for, and to help guide things along![break][break]

After taking additional selfies in the Insectarium, then dining by herself — an activity that was not new or depressing to her in the slightest — Yumi drew up alongside the dessert table to peruse the offerings.[break][break]

"Hmmm. Whoever the caterer is provided an excellent selection," she mused aloud, her eyes sparkling with a greedy delight. After a moment of contemplation, she picked a to-go bag of Kalosian macarons.[break][break]

Not yet ready to leave the masquerade and end the enchanting night, Yumi swept over to a large window overlooking Slateport City and sat down on a bench drawn up against it. Her gown spread out in front of her, a shimmering ocean of splendor spilling from her waist.[break][break]

Opening the to-go bag, Yumi selected a raspberry macaron to nibble while she watched the other guests mingle and, eventually, depart.

It was strange, how the more company she found in this night, the more alone she felt.[break][break]

The dance with found its end, and with it, a sense of loss lingered that Elisabeth couldn't explain to herself. It drifted with her into the ballroom, another flute of champagne filling the emptiness as she stared at the countless strangers engaged in late dances and farewells.[break][break]

Her mood now veered between melancholy and manic, and depending on who might approach her next, she wasn't sure what she might say or do.[break][break]

So when the next person to approach her was a familiar one, it was a small mercy. And mistakenly, she thought that this pleasant encounter would be how she would finally end her night.

Thankfully for Josh, there were no Beedrill buzzing about, letting him enjoy the rest of his meal in peace. With the bell announcing the final hour of the masque, he knew it was time to get to work. There were still a couple more things he had to do, though - that dessert table looked scrumptious! He noticed one of his Gym Trainers, JACKIE MYERS, grabbing some sweets as well; they told each other their identities ahead of time for ease of recognizing each other. It would be important specifically for this hour, where he would be performing the services he was actually hired onto the event for. When it was his turn, he grabbed perhaps a few more peppermints than he was entitled to, stuffing them in his goodie bag.

Josh, alongside his Manectric that looked like Raikou, began wandering the premises for those ready to leave, whether from being too inebriated to make it home on their own, those whose transportation plans had fallen through, or simply those who had heard about Josh's Eeveelutions each the size of a small Rapidash and wanted to see them for themselves.




PROMPT 2 - Sweet Desserts - Prompt complete!



- Josh finishes dinner and grabs a handful of peppermints.
- Now on the job, Josh keeps an eye out for those looking to take an early exit during the Masquerade's last hour.
- Costume: Manectric> Painted like Raikou, wearing a mask, tail dongle, and saddle in the likeness of Raikou's face, tail, and thundercloud. Josh> Dressed in his Halloween costume resembling his vision of what the Hero of Johto/Raikou's Avatar would look like. Very Medieval knight-like.

This post follows the events of the thread Cognitive Dissonance.

When dinner ended, Zev felt relieved. Finally, the masquerade was ending and he could escape all the socializing to bring Nenet back to his apartment. Her uncharacteristic displays of affection indicated sufficient drunkenness, which meant there was no way she'd be able to go back to work at the Space Center.[break][break]

The end of the masquerade also meant he no longer had to wear his mask. Without any fanfare or flourish, he took it off, revealing his identity for all who were around to witness him.[break][break]

But Zev's entire attention was on his date. "Let's get you home, hmm?" he said to her, flashing her a private smile. Then, lowering his voice so only she could hear him, he murmured, "And out of that dress."[break][break]

Then, taking out his phone, he pulled up the app for the Corviknight taxi services, intending to request one for immediate departure.

The rest of their meal arrives, and Niky feasts on the delicious meal. They even gave them desserts! To say that he was sufficiently stuffed would be an understatement. Sadly, the final bell rang for the conclusion. "I apologize, my lady, but it sounds like I better get going back to the performance. Hope you enjoy one last dance with one of our songs. This first one isn't a pop song, just a musical piece we all liked and hope that will bring out one last hurrah of dancers. If you're ever in Rustboro, Niky Racz is the name." With that, he got up from the table and left with a small show of his barely there mask being off.

Joining his sister and their group for the last rides of the day, they started out with a variation of Round Table Rival, adding in other instruments. It was a faster paced musical with a western vibe to hopefully get the energy up for a last bout of dancing. They soon moved to popular songs as of late for the rest of their performance. It continued to be fun, but alas all good things come to an end. When they were done, they started to pack up to leave...

she weaves through the crowd with a purpose: find the 6'7" man.

on her way, she stops to take some kalosian macarons because she's never been able to turn them down.

everyone seems gathered in one space, however. she has a difficult time trying to find amongst the sea of masks.

it comes down to the simple defining trait: his height.

a look of relief rises as her eyes settle on him. a moment later, she's sliding up to his side and intertwining their fingers. she has to rise on her tiptoes to whisper in his ear.

Hugo could tell that Hazel was reaching the end of his rope, so to speak. It often amused him that he knew his husband's limits better than he knew his own, better than Hazel knew his own. Not that he'd draw a lot of attention to it.

It wasn't that he didn't think Hazel capable of handling it, but he understood the weight of perceived imperfection. No matter how much he tried to make Hazel realize that he was perfect, there was always a flaw that the other could pick out. Everyone was guilty of that though, so he never faulted him for it.

"I think it's time for this old man to go home. There are other things we can get up to there if you're so willing." He said with a teasing little smile and a wink as he took his husband's arm.

He leaned down and offered him a kiss, "Thank you for humoring me tonight though, it was fun."

While Elinor had yet to form a complete opinion on so far she seemed lovely enough. And with a surname rivaling her own to boot. Elinor would not be about to push her away any time soon.

And so she continued to converse.

“It’s treating me exactly as you’d expect.” She sighed, mild tones of boredom in her voice. “The Daily grind is rough but boring, with the occasional bout of excitement when you get to do something grand like this to work on.” She gestured towards the whole event.

While her personal part in this was small, she was not about to forego what little honor she could claim.

“How is the professional Swashbuckling industry treating you?” She politely asked.

But she pondered if there’d be time for the answer. Time was ticking on after all, the Event would soon come to an end and so their little group would have to go their separate ways unless either of the two had no plans of their own.

But that was neither here nor there. It would be a bridge that they would cross once they got there.

[attr="class","star2"] Hazel’s level of patience was inherently flawed where his husband and their antics were concerned. And as much as he’d wanted to attend this event, he could also feel the pull of exhaustion creeping up on him. Threatening the weight of fatigue in the coming day if they were to stay much longer.[break][break]

So for multiple reasons, he found himself rapidly nearing the point at which he’d like to slip back out into the chilly night so that they could return home. Of course, that wasn’t something he didn’t even need to tell Hugo with words. He picked up on in the affectionate way he leaned on the arm and shoulder tucked together with his own. And probably in the slight lag in his steps, though Hazel wouldn’t readily admit to his own tiredness.[break][break]

Per usual, it felt like a weakness. And Hugo, also per usual, was quick to shuffle explanations and justifications onto himself. “Hm?” Hazel hummed from where his head was settled against the other’s shoulder. “Willing indeed.” There was no wiggling out of that, by no means.[break][break]

“I thought you were the one humoring me,” he murmured, chin tilting up to receive the kiss. As they drew closer to the exit, he was quick to pick up a bag of treats and immediately peek into it. Sweet tooth overruling the fact that he shouldn’t eat them that late in the evening.[break][break]

He smiled up at his husband again, “But you’re welcome, anyway.”

Her gait barely discernable as unsteady to the untrained eye, it's readily apparent to her date that Nenet is well-past tipsy and fully into drunk territory; she uses Zev to stabilize her, her arm laced with his. At the question posed she hums in turn, her golden eyes bright.

"It's very stifling," she confirms, her timbre low and accent heavy. Her hands lifting, she curls her fingers into Zev's tie and tugs him forwards, his phone momentarily batted out of the way. Satisfied he's finally close enough, her nose lightly brushes against his before a decidedly unchaste kiss is pressed to his lips.

Nenet then reaches over to tap the screen, calling the taxi to their location.

"You should have brought something to teleport," she scolds him languidly, her arms haphazardly wrapping around Zev's shoulders as she speaks. Allowing her voice to drop to nary a whisper, she murmurs something in Zev's ear before she leans back and arches an eyebrow, her expression one of challenge.

It's only a few moments before the swirl of air is the first indicator of their approaching taxi, and the pair are soon secreted away into its depths to return home.

The night danced by too quickly. It was a whirl of excitement and intrigue. The masks gave it all a bit more mystery which made it that more enjoyable. With dinner long past them, and the early hours of the morning creeping closer, the crowd was beginning to thin out while many began to say their goodbyes.

Eva laces her fingers between ’s and tugs him in close. She doesn’t pay much attention to the dessert table, she has her eyes on another treat, “Ready to head home?” she asks, smiling up at him with a certain sparkle in her eyes.

It’s rudely interrupted by a bold paparazzi that recognizes the couple and demands a few remarks on their night’s affairs. At first, the professor’s glare seems a bit annoyed, but she has become a bit better with publicity since her ascension to Head Professor required more face to face time with the media. A pleasant smile curls across her lips, “Oh, this night was wonderful! My favorite part was probably the exhibits,” she decides, no surprise there considering she was a sucker for science.

After all the dancing, his secret rendezvous with , and a pleasant dinner with , Gunner was ready to go home. He passed by the dessert table, uninterested in the sweets that offered themselves tantalizingly to guests. Instead, he looked around until he spotted and her date ().[break][break]

Quick strides brought Gunner to their side. "I'm heading home now, ma'am," he said to his boss, taking care to preserve her identity. "I'm glad to see you got through the party unscathed."[break][break]

Before he could depart, however, a nearby RotomTV representative swooped upon him, demanding final thoughts on the masquerade. At first, Gunner assumed the paparazzi's question was directed toward the councilwoman, but he quickly realized the camera was pointed at him instead.[break][break]

"It was a great time," he said at length, putting on his best smile. "The Council really outdid themselves with the catering, the decorations, the music — everything, really. Bravo to Councilwoman Livy and Councilwoman Anderson."[break][break]

As soon as the camera was out of his face, Gunner ducked into the crowd, disappearing into the night like a wraith.

Having made several patrols around the main hall, Josh wondered if any guests were already waiting outside. Wandering alongside his colleagues, he tilted his head toward Shawn, his top Gym Trainer, and said, "I'm gonna head outside to check on my Pokémon. If anyone's looking for me, tell them I'm by the sleighs, okay?"

With that, he left the ballroom and headed to the rear lot, where the Eeveelution-drawn sleighs were located. It seemed his intuition was right; there was a young lady outside, at play with Pinky, Josh's Sylveon. Both of them were laughing hysterically, the guest scritching behind the fairy-type's ears, and Pinky tickling her with her feelers. "Aww..." Josh couldn't help but sound as he approached the female, only to find out she was waiting for her significant other still.

- Josh tells his Gym Trainers that if anyone's looking for him, he's outside checking on his Eeveelutions.

- Costume: Manectric> Painted like Raikou, wearing a mask, tail dongle, and saddle in the likeness of Raikou's face, tail, and thundercloud. Josh> Dressed in his Halloween costume resembling his vision of what the Hero of Johto/Raikou's Avatar would look like. Very Medieval knight-like. He currently has his helmet's face shield up, exposing his face so that anyone can recognize him.

The dinner managed to go by so quickly that Rosie herself could barely catch up. From her surprise encounter with and and the slightly uncomfortable dinner that ensued, the mood of this little magical escapade was put on halt. She was sure Zev was just enjoying watching his little brother and Rosie squirm under the pressure. [break][break]

Meanwhile Rosie just had to wonder why he was throwing such a wrench in her plans. Was it because he sensed they were actually enjoying themselves or was he being a typical menace? Either way, he was the one that forced her into this particular predicament in the first place. The least he could do would be to get off her back and let her work. [break][break]

The first moment Rosalie spied a moment to slip away from them she took it in a heartbeat. If there was one thing she was good at it was making herself scarce. There one moment and then gone the next, she managed to lead Caleb away from the crowds to a secluded area in the Insectarium under the twinkling lights. [break][break]

The orchestra was still around and playing one last ballad for the evening so Rosie figured they could squeeze in one last dance. After all, when the clock struck twelve it would signal and end to this magical evening of theirs and they would have to go back to reality. Now that the night was coming to a close Rosie figured there was no need to keep up appearances any longer. She quickly slipped off her mask as deep pools of blue stared up at Caleb's own. [break][break]

"Ah, that's much better." She said with a playful smirk on her face as she wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him in close. "Do humor me and give me one last dance before we go." she said as her long lashes dipped as she fluttered them playfully. "I so enjoyed myself during our last one."[break][break]

It was true, she couldn't get their dance off her mind for a number of reasons. Their kiss was certainly one of the major ones. As they began to twirl around their private little dance floor once more, their bodies pressed together as the slow jams of the orchestra made this moment more intimate than their first one.[break][break]

"I was thinking," Rosie said softly as a knowing grin formed on her lips, "I couldn't just let the night end without returning the favor since you've taken such good care of me this evening." she said as they made a final pass under an arch where convenient mistletoe were placed. Glancing up she nodded to where they found themselves. "And would you look at that, it seems even the decorations agree with me."[break][break]

Rosie's laugh was soft as she turned her gaze back towards Caleb. This time her sapphire hues were deep and passionate. Her gaze was captivating as Rosie made a point to make it clear for the first time that night her affections and desires for Caleb. She brought herself closer to him, her lips hovering near his for just a moment as she whispered, "You see, it's not polite to keep a lady waiting. And after our last dance, this was the only thing I could think about."[break][break]

Rosie's teasing voice was low before she brought her lips to meet Caleb's once more. Unlike his earlier quick kiss that was initiated by him, Rosie's was more decisive and precise. Her kiss brought with it her attraction so it was bound to be a bit more passionate than the first. No longer rushed by time she eliminated all distractions around her and focused only on the man in her embrace.[break][break]

After a moment she pulled away from him. If she didn't stop herself she'd devour him on the spot and whether she liked it or not, eyes were in the area. This wasn't the time or the place so she made sure to reign her emotions in. "Mmm, I quite like that." Rosie hummed softly as she gently brushed her fingers across her lips. One thing was for certain, Caleb wouldn't be leaving here doubting if Rosie had affection for him.
