The Kingambit had chosen their opponent poorly. Sure, Callan was long, gangly, white as a sheet ghost in moonlight with bloodshot red eyes and dark rings around his eyes. But as burned out as he was, the Pokemon should have had a better sense of self-preservation.

The KOWTOW CLEAVE comes down, a surprise attack in begging for mercy. An avoidable slash by nature of its attempt to catch the opponent off guard. The only issue was, Callan's Enma needed no guard. It takes the blow easily as the blade digs into its fur and skin before being stopped by steellike muscle, it clenches tight, grunting in dispassioned malaise as it holds the blade in its pec before delivering a sloppy HAMMER ARM into the Kingambit's gullet, forcing the dark type to truly Kowtow this time before Callan.

Callan unclips his Pokeball and tosses it towards the fainting shogun, before beckoning Enma to follow.

Why did these Pokémon remind him of his home city back in Alola?

Was it because of the way they sliced through bamboo without even batting an eyelash? Or was it just because of the ‘armor’ that they wore, that bore so much resemblance to ancient warriors of days of yore?

Either way…

You best believe that Maverick was on the trail when the rumors spread about a swarm of kingambit being spotted throughout route 120. Warm crimson colored orbs shifted left and right, keeping a close eye on the shadows of the forest. Azula, the massive six foot seven hell hound, lifted her nose into the air, nostrils flared in an attempt to catch their scent. A growl rattled in her chest, finding a scent that was somewhat familiar to her. Maverick nodded, letting her lead the way.[break][break]

Few miles further into the route, the canine snarled at the sight of the wild pokemon. The ex gym leader swiftly moved behind a tree, shushing the canine in hopes they didn’t spot them. The man held his breath, waiting for the sound that they heard him. But after several minutes, no indication they were heard. He peeked around the corner, observing them from afar. He already had one.[break][break]

Suddenly, the sparkling shimmer of blue armor came out. His brows rose. He didn’t have a shiny one. Reaching into his pockets, Maverick eyed the blue one. And only went he felt confident in his aim, the dark haired man moved into view and launched the ball at it. He was spotted, causing a few younger ones to flee while the adults faced him. The ball was already launched, Azula leaping before him ready to set them ablaze.[break][break]

The sound of clanging steel-types was impossible to miss, blade striking blade, bamboo stalks falling as battles went on.

Hideo had wanted to make his way away from these battle-hungry samurai, uneager to bring in a Pokemon he might lose a finger to just petting, but as luck would have it, one of those bamboo stalks found its way to his head. It wasn't a particularly rough hit, and he was ready to just walk it off, but his Annihilape was furious by the offense.

Before he could reign his Pokemon in, she had already charged towards the offender. Best he could do at this point was wait for her to return - possibly with a very sharp Pokemon in tow.

Yikes. The Rangers really had their work cut out for them with this lot! Eva winced, watching a fully grown Bisharp get pummeled by an impressively large evolution. The Kingambit were new to Hoenn and that is an opportunity for discovery Eva couldn’t pass up!

Time to nab one of these shiny samurai for science!

A quick INFERNO from the little Vulpix was hopefully enough to at least distract a nearby Kingambit. A pokeball quickly followed the flames to try and engulf the stunned pokemon.

This was a veritable army. And not one armed with bamboo swords, no. Those blades and edges were all very sharp, much in the same vein that the knives she had had made for Jo not too long ago. Only they had two. And they seemed rather dangerous. It was probably best to just watch and wait, see if any of those rose to become threats to the people around them before doing anything.

Those things did look intimidating, but that wasn’t it. They just were dangerous, there were many of them, and any one of them could probably seriously injure or kill. It would have been rather foolish to just casually engage. Though Megan did put some time aside in her observations to look for stragglers or those that strayed from the pitfights. Just in case she could snag one for herself. Which would admittedly be kind of awesome.

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]The samurai were among the most well-known and memorable warriors in history. Growing up, she'd read as much as she could about the military feats and cultural importance of samurai warriors, not to mention the sword-smithing techniques that created the distinctive traditional swords they bore into battle. With their many intricately forged layers, incredibly sharp—but brittle—single edge, and relatively flexible spine, those swords were justly renowned for their beauty and effectiveness throughout the world.

Since coming to Hoenn, she'd heard even more stories and learned even more about samurai warriors from Kanto and Johto—both the myths and the reality surrounding them. The more she'd learned, the more intriguing and impressive they loomed in her imagination. The mere idea that there were newly discovered Pokemon out there who resembled those legendary swordsmen was enough to entice Aurelie to volunteer to help with the swarm.

Much like she had with the last swarm she'd ventured out to see, Aurelie paced gravely through the now-leafless forest along Route 120 alongside her faithful Gallade. The Pokemon stayed protectively close to her, warding her with the blades extending from his arms. As before, she carried a sword of her own creation here too, though the red-haired smith trusted far more to the Gallade's skill than her own against the swarm of Bisharps and Kingambits awaiting the two of them.

Still, it gave her a thrill to see the samurai-like Kingambits—a previously unheard-of evolution of Bisharps until recently—leading the swarm of Pokemon like the ancient daimyos out of history. This is amazing! she marveled, holding her sword so that its blade angled diagonally across her body. They look like they're ready to siege a castle, with all those blades and swords!

"En garde!" she exclaimed enthusiastically as one Pokemon leapt to engage her and her Gallade. Her blood sang in her veins as she swept her blade in a quick parry. The Gallade beside her became a blur of blue and white as he fought fiercely to protect her against the bladed Pokemon, filling the air with the melody of clashing steel as their varied weapons collided and struck against each other in energetic battle.

Angelo considers the swarm of new pokemon with a thoughtful bite of an Oran berry he'd plucked from a nearby bush. Attention locked on the glowing pupils set above an impressive, bladed moustache.

“Looks like you've caught their eye,” he comments to the Urshifu who'd accompanied him on his trek.

The Kingambit bows their bladed helm to the bear.

There is honour amongst samurai.

But she is no warrior of the Bushido code.

Instead, Larusso raises a paw, smugly twitching it towards herself with a sharp-toothed TAUNT at the newest challenger.

Angelo stands back, teeth sinking into Oran flesh and wonders how his cocky bear would fare against the new, hopeful lord of Route 120.

Nikita was relaxing after a long night. Rinsing the blood—or at least its impression—from his hand had taken some time. Though the woman bore responsibility for dozens of deaths, she seemed so harmless. The way her eyes filled with tears as she kissed his feet like he was some medieval lord had almost unnerved him. But, in the end, he did what was required. One bullet to her diseased skull followed by a phone call.

Flipping away from a completed movie, Nikita paused at the red banner of a special report.

Had someone already stumbled on the woman’s body? If so, it would be an impressive record. Still, it would further increase the discord the organization had been sowing in the enemy’s ranks. A den of rats was easier to destroy when the beasts began eating each other.

“Route 120 is currently under assault by a group of Pokemon. Our in-field researcher is in the field with more—” Nikita lunged for the remote. Unfortunately—though he was elbow-deep in a castle of building blocks—his grandson was faster. “Oh! Wow!” With a gentle clunk, the remote settled back on the coffee table’s wooden top. The old man sighed as the child stood up, upending hours of work. . “Poppa, those are awesome.” Samuel’s blue eyes sparkled like a moonlit cornflower. “It’s like a ninja with a mustache!”

Nikita shook his head. He sipped from his mug. “I believe they more closely resemble samurai.” With a grin, the child charged his grandfather’s armchair. “Can we go see em!?” Nikita coughed. The man’s dislike of poor enunciation ran almost as deeply as his distaste for terrorism. “--them. We never do anything cool! Please?” A sigh shook the man’s frame as he sat up with faux reluctance. “Very well. Get your jacket.”

A few hours later, the pair sat a safe distance away from the path. Nikita had brought along a folding chair and a pair of binoculars. The latter of these were passed along to the boy beside him. “Wow! Lookit, those swords! I bet they're super duper dangerous!!” The elder gentleman’s eyes slid to the people crowding around the Pokemon. A few of them he recognized for less than legal reasons.

His hand settled almost tentatively on his grandson’s head. “They are.”

fascinations focused on the fighting styles of the samurai of old had brought rhugone to come spectate the kingambit swarm. the different pokemon seemed to be challenging each other in ways that reflected some kind of honor system and a hierarchy of such was used to pit the pokemon against each other. sitting atop a particularly large rock seemed to be the 'king of the hill' so to speak and rhugone couldn't help but admire the larger kingambit as it seemed to await a challenger to battle it for its place. with her steelix at her side, the bodyguard wondered if she could approach it herself.[break][break]

When she heard that there was a kingambit swarm appearing in route 120. Melody instantly had to come and test her Bellosom's mettle against the kingambits. The reason why? Well, if the nickname Mulan told you anything, this bellosom was a total weeb. [break][break]

She had to prove her sword techniques against one of the kingambits. [break][break]

She drew her leaf blade against the samurai protecting the shogun sitting in the middle of them all. "Go!" she shouts as Suddenly mulan uses her battle routine set. She sends a sunny day into the sky to boost her speed as she uses growth on her leaf blade to enhance the size of her blade [break][break]

She slices forward, dashing with a blazing speed that would make it difficult to follow with normal eyes as suddenly the kingambit falls to the floor and collapses. Melody tosses a pokeball to the kingambit and sees if she can try to catch. [break][break]

Johanna Gazed upon the wrecked route 120. Two groups of kingambit and their retinue had clashed like armies of ancient samurai, hoping to win what imaginary bamboo fields they saw fit for their daimyo.

Now there were but stragglers left. But even those could be dangerous. She knew this, and so she joined the efforts of catching these wild soldiers, letting her Bewear get some much needed exercise in the process before she would throw a ball and attempt a capture.
