ONE DAY, a massive golden ring appears in the middle of Hoenn's desert. To the experienced, the ring's make is unmistakably Hoopa's: a mischievous djinn that possesses the ability to pull Pokemon from different worlds. Certainly, this ring that waits among the golden sands is a portal too. However, peering through it reveals nothing. Only a shimmering veil of light awaits your entry.[break][break]

However, in the sands, a message is written. In spite of passing gusts, the grains do not obscure the warning:[break][break]

Although war continues to wage on in the region, the ring presents an opportunity for more power—and for more knowledge. However, entering the ring is a massive risk, for there is no guarantee that one will return. Moreover, can Hoopa be trusted? Do the treasures exist? The League and Team Rocket send their finest—while others sneak in—in order to investigate Hoopa's claims and hopefully... to claim Hoopa itself.

LATE DECEMBER (TENTATIVE)

IN THE DEAD OF WINTER, THE LEAGUE AND TEAM ROCKET FIGHT WITHIN THE DESERT. It is an inevitable clash. Eruptions of sand claw across the dunes. Much to the chagrin of archaeologists, the sprawling tombs uncovered by a wrathful Registeel have been repurposed as trenches or shelters for these sandy skirmishes.[break][break]

Before the hovering ring, the message remains. In the sands, the goading verse does not shift due to a powerful PSYCHIC-TYPE ENERGY. No doubt, Hoopa has cursed this inscription with a resilience strong enough to contest the violence of war.[break][break]

Through the ring, the Unbound Hoopa's head emerges smile first.[break][break]

"who is more deserving of my power? who will make it to the end of my trials? the league? team rocket? don't give your enemies a head start... and don't keep a poor djinn waiting!"[break][break]

The deep bass of its voice seems to echo continuously in goading waves long after the Hoopa's departure.[break][break]

Reaching the ring portal is no easy task. Enemies are quick to stall you, to engage you in order to allow their comrades to leap into the portal. However, another threat emerges to pressure your advance.[break][break]



Sands surge upwards and crash down like ocean waves. Claydol rise from the exposed ruins as a gigantic REGISTEEL emerges once again. The Legendary Titan swings its mighty arms, tossing Pokemon and their trainers through the scattering gold grains. Blinking red "eyes" flicker in frantic patterns while FLASH CANNONS sear across the desert.[break][break]

The primary directive for each faction is to reach Hoopa's portal—and it appears that the REGISTEEL is inadvertently assisting by chasing those fighting into it.

"Long time no see, Registeel." The words drifted through a wafting array of smoke as Admin Fox lit a cigarette, his eye flat from exhaustion and overwork. Red energy erupted from the band at his hand as the earth shook and split open, causing Trapinch and Cacnea to fall into deep abysses as a building-sized fist made from stone towered over the battlefield. "Rouse yourself, Regirock!"

Eight Dynergy Barriers sparked to life as the Rock Peak Pokemon completed its transformation, a veritable monolith of Hoenn's biosphere overflowing with Eternatus's boon. Regirock's ruin lay dormant, but the Authentic Power Spot was active. Dynamax was a necessary evil, and although it broke his heart to mar these precious ruins, they were already being turned into trenches of war. It was merciful to bury them in tons of sand, rather than let them slowly be turned into nothing more than ruined sandstone.

Burying yesterday for those of tomorrow was a greater kindness than destroying it.

A drag of the cigarette followed. Howard's helmet clicked into place, sealing the admin from the outside world.

"I'll take the giant!" Howard shouted, memories of fighting this titan alongside various members of Team Rocket a few months back. "Go! Get to the portal!"

"TACKLE IT!"

A Max Guard enveloped the stone titan as it marched forward, stone feet the size of buildings stepping over trenches and causing the world to shake. As the barrier shined to life, the golem marched towards its steel sibling in an attempt to knock it away from the battlefield.

"This is what we've been waiting for. I wanna know what deal it's offering this time!" Neon said into his comms, grin wide on his helmet. He'd been itching for the opportunity to find Hoopa again and figure out if it had the power to help locate Kyurem, and even more so, how it could lock the mighty beast away. Hoopa had shown to be pokemon of near unlimited potential. They had to take advantage of it before the League did. He makes his way, ducking and weaving League officers, and managing his way across the sands and the oppressive heat. [break][break]

The flashes of energy from the Registeel only serve as more incentive to get into the ring as quickly as possible. Galarian Articuno makes its rare appearance, flying low with it's vassal as it covered the Beast by summoning a powerful HURRICANE on the field.

In Locke's defense, how in the hell was he supposed to expect the fighting to reach this far inland?

"Looks like something crazy is happening again..." the courier griped to the Shaymin beside him.

Mini-Mini made a commiserating noise as they both watched a small crowd form around the anomaly from the crumbling ruin wall they'd taken shelter behind. The words on the ground were too far to make out, but the portal above them and the creature that spoke from it spelled nothing but danger.

"Let's try slipping away while they're all distracted," they suggested-as if that had ever worked before-to which Mini-Mini nodded and mimicked her trainer's army crawl through the sand.

They did not get far before the sands swelled beneath them, lifting them atop a large, metal something rising from the earth.

"...Ah."

The golem beeped out some unintelligible reply, before picking up both of its unintended passengers and sending them screaming over the crowd to crash land on top of the message in the sand.



Locke tries to sneak away with his Shaymin but ends up getting tossed by Registeel to the front of the portal.

the battlefield dramatically shifts as the desert births a colossal registeel in the midst of it all. the murmur of urgency in the back of her mind crescendos into a scream as a rogue flash cannon superheats the air nearby. a shaky breath rattles in her throat as she turns her attention to the league officials around her, making the call for them. [break][break]"we need to just go! paprika — phantom force us to the ring."[break][break]a beat passes after her ceruledge draws its arm back, perhaps to gauge the tenebrous distance from one point to another, then it cuts a portal with a slash of its blade. while her sync pokemon focuses on holding the rift open, annalise makes a frantic gesture for people to use it. [break][break]"go!"[break][break]annalise turns her back to the rift, steeling herself for the task of covering for them.

It's taken four months now but the battle around them was starting to become almost like second nature to him. His experience within Kanto's war still very fresh in comparison to most. Though the appearance of this odd creature was definitely different. He doesn't understand the importance of this portal but he knows better than to question such things. If they wanted them in the portal then he would do just that. Raziel following his mentor's lead of taking to the skies top his Toxic Chained Noivern. And while he would like to follow the order about making it to the portal and fighting the league, the appearance of the dynamix pokemon concerns him. [break][break]

Especially with only and holding the line. As much as following orders was a priority, he wanted to help them. Was that not what the past four months had been about? Slightly more independent thinking to make such choices? [break][break]

It was chaos all around them. At the moment it seemed people were more focused on fighting Registeel, but they wondered how long that would last. How long would it be before the League and Team Rocket got caught up fighting each other? With the way things were going, they figured it was only a matter of time; after all, there wasn’t much to gain from joining forces, like they had heard happened in past events like this.

For two months, she was off the field, handling herself, with a call to gain her strength, and challenge four Gyms, and heal. For two months, she allowed herself that break, and with it came a level of clarity that gave its own insight.[break][break]

Back on the field, it's time to show the fruits of labor.[break][break]

Zagreus throws everything he can forward, a reminder of his work against , and in just a moment, the spicy orange-haired Ranger returns with force. With a conjured weapon of the past, she clinches her fist, and with a very quick EXTREMESPEED, comes a very fast, very powerful, very Bulu-empowered fist slam into Regirock.[break][break]

When Zag slides away, using his paw pads and the sand to glide around the dunes, the redhead looks towards Sheriff Navy. He had this covered. Her own strike, was meant for revenge. She could've taken her own arm off. But she's had months to think it over.[break][break]

"Going in for interference," she smirks, speeding up and jetting off as fast as they can towards the Hoopa portal. She believes in that group to do their part. Just like and Nurse told her before. Once again, Andrea had found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time--the Hoennian desert, to be precise--staring down not one, but two familiar figures. “Hoopa and Registeel…” The dragon maiden narrowed her amethyst eyes at the two looming legendaries. To call the multi-armed djinn a troublemaker would be a massive understatement. As for the iron golem, they had barely survived its wrath in their last encounter.

Her gut instinct told her to run away, but she was seduced by a sand-written message promising treasures untold. “What if we find the rest of Pon’s masks in there?” The eccentric girl thought. It was highly unlikely, but the prospect was too alluring to ignore.

“We’ll find that treasure! Not for the League or Rocket, but for us!” The young PokéManiac declared resolutely, spreading the artificial wings of her Hydreigon Sygna Suit. “Chomper--I mean, Mecha-Chomper, let’s Fly together!” And fly she did, alongside her Iron Jugulis, the robotic hydra firing a Dark Pulse in hopes of stalling the titanic Registeel long enough for them to slip into the glowing portal.

titans seek blood atop shifting sands, unaware that wind and time make mockeries of the foundations they stand upon. absinthe, face covered entirely in the monstrous visage of glass tubing and air filtration systems, leers like a viper from behind the safety of the lenses of her gas mask.[break][break]

this is the fruit of labor of gods? a portal? cool, unfeeling steel and abandoned ruins, labyrinthine in their meandering?[break][break]

absinthe finds the display pitiful. absinthe finds the display idiotic.[break][break]

but for all her posturing and all her stancing and all of her pride, the flesh shall have its way, and a red, beating heart still pulses beneath her chest, no matter how frequently she should hope to disarm it. she knows not what use the portal may have for her superiors, but absinthe is loyal to , even as she sneers at the golem of rock he draws from the earth.[break][break]

a flash of light draws asbestos out into the sands, and his fluttering form already begins the spread of frigid scales to the ground below. the state of the battlefield grows worse as, with a whispered command, absinthe sends the moth to the skies to send ACID RAIN cascading down atop any bastard that would see fit to attack the regirock—and, more than likely, bastards who don't, for the corrosive acid cares little for whose flesh it kisses.[break][break]

in the meantime, absinthe's legs pump, drawing her closer to the portal.

The desert was a whirlwind of chaos, of slinking fiends and towering giants and of those speeding off towards that distant portal as fast as their feet could carry them. The frenetic energy of it all was exhilarating; this free-for-all, this wondrous clashing of stone and steel, would prove to be a glorious stage for the Stalwart to test his mettle. Eddie grinned wide, and thought that maybe the zweihander clutched in a single, white-knuckled hand might have felt the same rush that now so wholly possessed him, [break][break]

“Never been so excited ta see one'a those giants, if I'm bein' honest!” he admitted to the Sword with boyish mirth as they rode across the roiling sands, hurtling towards the epicenter of this new calamity, [break][break]

“You ready ta rumble, big guy?” [break][break]

Terrakion gave a simple grunt of assent; a good enough response as any, Eddie figured, as they charged on. [break][break]

And maybe charging head-on was the right play as he and other members of the Dewford crew set off. Some blue-black blur, a vaguely familiar, leonine shape, blazed a trail to the portal and avoided the fight altogether. Another fiery orange comet sped off and struck Regirock with a decisive drive-by pummeling; now that was more of Eddie's speed, he thought with a grin, as he and Terrakion dashed that way, [break][break]

“You remember that fucker, dontcha?” he urged the Sword as they drew closer, [break][break]

“'s prob'ly got it handled, but how about we pitch in, too?” [break][break]

Petty vengence was no motivator for the stalwart heart, but the Cavern Pokemon could at least recognize that there was a genuine threat that required contesting. Besides, who was he to neglect a sister-in-arms? [break][break]

Terrakion's wordless reply came in the form of a QUICK ATTACK, bounding at blistering speeds towards the two giants. Eddie whooped with pure glee, sheer, unbridled exhilaration, as the tip of his clutched blade dragged through the sands. Even a sudden shower of ACID SPRAY could do little to dampen his spirits, though that probably had more to do with Terrakion's fleet footwork than anything else. Eddie did crane his neck up, though, in the general direction he thought he spied the errant shower from, [break][break]

“Hey! You lousy fuck!” he jeered, though a sudden lurch from his steed cut the rest of his expletives short. [break][break]

It was probably better to keep his eyes on the road anyway, in case he spied someone either caught by the sudden shower or threatened by the golem's stomping strides.

Some part of Blossom has to wonder what on earth she's doing out here. She did not travel to Hoenn for war, but for peace. She should be helping civilians trapped in the Silent Icelands, but she's in the completely opposite biome doing the completely opposite thing. She should have realized that a patrol anywhere near Hoopa's Ring would inevitably turn into a skirmish.

Such doubts encompass more people than just Bloss herself. Fighting side by side with Captain , she has to wonder what any Ranger is doing out here. War has little to do with guarding nature, and even less with helping the needy. She didn't sign up for any of this.

Of course, the only reason she can approach the matter in these terms is that she doesn't care a whit about power. Unfortunately for the Kalosian, the League cares; and, for better or worse, she's part of the League.

She hesitates a split second at Annalise's urging, desperately wanting to ask whether the other is sure; to help her colleague rather than run away. There's no time, though.

"Safeguard," is all she says instead.

Once the force field is up around Annalise and her Paprika, Blossom vaults herself onto her own Géranium — the most physically imposing among her team — before they rush into the Ceruledge's portal. Emerging, she holds on tight to the Herb Pokémon's neck while he dashes to the nearby ring, prepared to cut down any interference.
