Caleb had brought beer, because he figured they could all use a drink. The near apocalypse still felt like yesterday and then, of course, there was the matter of Tam's abrupt departure, leaving the Slateport Rangers without a captain.[break][break]
He left the pair of six packs on a nearby folding table - accompanied by a tin of so-easy-you-can't-possibly-fuck-it-up chocolate chip cookies - then slipped into the back of the room, hoping to draw as little attention as possible. He had considered skipping this meeting, given everything on his mind lately. How much longer would he even be a Ranger? Losing their captain felt like the final crack in an already crumbling commitment. Recent conversations with and were fresh in his mind. Feeling sullen and contemplative, he wasn't really in the mood for small talk.[break][break]
Neither was , apparently. Caleb spied his friend surrounded by one too many people. Yep, that's Orion limit. He sauntered over, hoping to give the socially awkward man a way out of the conversation, despite his mood.[break][break]
He approached his fellow Slateport Ranger with only-sort-of a forced smile, trying to communicate with his eyes that Orion could follow him out of the crowd if he wished. He glanced at the others around the shorter man, not really recognizing any of them - except maybe , he'd seen that guy before hadn't he?[break][break]
The woman that the older, gruff-looking man had just introduced as his daughter caught Caleb's eye all of a sudden. Damn, she was cute. He nodded to her, deciding he'd introduce himself after all. "Caleb Harcourt," he said by way of greeting, flashing her a small smile. "I work out of Slateport with Orion. We were at Littleroot together." So much for saving Orion...

Another meeting. After how much of a raging disaster the last one had been, Josh had considered giving this one a miss. Izumi was the Ranger Captain after all, surely she could handle this, right? He'd just hear how it went when she got home. Unfortunately, something went awry at Izumi's mother's restaurant... Which meant she then had to give the meeting a miss. Which now meant that not only did Josh have to attend, but also do so in Izumi's stead in representing Lavaridge.

Well, he'd just have to bring something nice and maybe hope they could keep things cordial this time. He didn't know how many more awe-inspiring, wildly charismatic speeches he had left in him for this lifetime after last time. Josh had been quite busy lately, between the whole meteor business, its aftermath, and working at keeping his promise to ensure that the funding from the Rangers got their variant of the eyepieces made at an expert level of quality. It was a lot of work, and Josh was at the forefront of the latter instead of letting everyone else do it. If you wanted it to be done right, you did it yourself. So he was just a tad tired with all that put together, but he'd just have to suck it up and pretend he wasn't tired as could be.

So he put on a nice suit and got to it.

"Ranger Josh Dragomir. Acting for Lavaridge Captain Izumi."

Introduced himself to security, then he was in. He'd brought some burgers, even grilled them himself! Unfortunately, someone had beaten him to it. Muttering a curse under his breath, he placed them next to the other burgers and hoped that people really enjoyed those. This time, everyone seemed far more somber. Considering the disaster of last time, he wasn't too surprised. Question is, what matter of calamity had called them in this time? Was it Puddles the Magic Tirtouga causing trouble again? Or maybe the Holy Cheese Wheel of Arceus? It definitely wasn't his inventions this time, Josh was still working on that.

He recognized but once again the boy was as popular as ever. Probably best to leave him alone until later. He did however, shoot a wave to who he did recognize from a previous mission.

Nikolaj did not miss the way Caleb smiled at Saskia, but Lance's question interrupted him before he could say anything to the young scamp. Nodding, Nikolaj confirmed, "That's right. I've been stationed out in Oldale for a while now."[break][break]

Then Orion chimed in about the Silent Icelands, bringing a frown to Nikolaj's face.[break][break]

"Rough is one way of putting it. Our winter crops have taken a hit. The farmers were hoping that the snow and ice would disappear come spring, but it doesn't look like that'll happen."[break][break]

He fell silent at mention of the battle of Littleroot, though. Oldale's Rangers were few and far between, so they'd stood by as reinforcements in case the battle went south. As a result, Nikolaj had caught the tail end of the battle, as well as the aftermath.[break][break]

Though the events had taken place months ago, they were still fresh in his memory. And they were not ones he could easily forget.[break][break]

Instead, he smiled at Annalise's comment. "It's all my fault. I raised Sasky in the woods so she had no choice but follow in my footsteps."

Unlike most of everyone, the man of the hour himself has been pretzeled into a corner of the meeting room ever since had sweet-talked him to hosting it at Evergrande instead of Lilycove.

For there were several things on his mind; but a particular one would be… well, brought to the forefront soon enough.

He idly wondered where had gone off to this time, because now more than ever he never thought he’d feel so—isolated—from most of everyone who began to slowly filter in.

Much as he wanted to fill one corner of the room with obnoxious clouds of vanilla-scented smoke, he was chewing something else—some new kind of gum that supposedly took off the cravings for a hit of nicotine.

Which… wasn’t working too well, unfortunately.

Seeing that had arrived first he quietly inquired, “Did you take that vacation break I gave you after what went down at Littleroot?” before returning to his brooding in the corner.

came next (there were two of them in the roster, and he didn’t want to get either of them mixed up) and he looked up quietly.

“Yeah. Hopefully no more storms, wouldn’t you say?”

Normally Lars here would be going around and talking with everyone else that showed up—hell, even the first that had arrived before he noticed the older Josh was wearing a suit.

“The wife busy?” he asked the blonde. (Well, fastest way to tell them apart: one of the Joshes was a blonde.)

He didn’t miss his cousin’s entry either—who looked completely exhausted. He knew that cranky look anywhere, but—sent her a quiet little smile at her appearance. And sure enough, would follow soon after but holy shit that was a rather foul look on his face…

What the hell?

He hoped that more would show up. The last time they turned out, things got a little… rowdy (that was one way of putting it) and he did not want a repeat of what happened back then.

The last big Ranger meeting may not have gone so well, but Julia still entered the Ever Grande HQ with her head held high and a smile on her face. The much more serious atmosphere only gave her a slight pause as she and Sparkie entered, carrying (with hands and Telekinesis) some chips and a tub of homemade onion dip. Wow, there was a lot of food here already! Drinks, too! Julia set her own offerings on the table, then scratched Sparkie behind the ear in thanks before recalling her to her Ball.

Much like his very first day showing up at Ever Grande HQ for orientation training, Wren is scrambling. One would think that working here for the bulk of his beginner stages as a ranger would’ve made him more prepped in navigating the tall buildings of the city, but apparently not. Only pausing to catch his breath just outside the doors, he breezes in with moments to spare—a casserole dish of mac b’ cheese in his hands and his psyduck waddling behind him in a tizzy.[break][break]

Once he’s plunked the dish down among the rest of the provisions, he doubles back around to greet at the entrance, eager to catch up with his mentor. Not before he spies the bright blonde hair of and the familiar face of along the way. “Hey Anna!” he greets, hand lifting in the air, “Hey Josh! How goes?”[break][break]

Chipper as ever, what he doesn’t mention is his hope that this meeting goes a bit more smoothly than the last. Privately, he recalls the fact that apple pie no longer tastes quite the same now that he’s been unexpectedly smacked in the face with one. Elaina was uncertain as to whether she should attend the Ranger meeting. She reluctantly decided that it'd probably be a good thing, seeing as how the only ranger she got well acquainted with was her second-in-command, who seemed to have arrived before. In her hands was a container, housing macarons, appearing to look like the head of a Mimikyu. With the light touch of yellow food coloring and the candies on the opposite sides. Hopefully everyone here will like them, Elaina said, kind of worried that the other rangers didn't like sweets, especially ones that were lemon-flavored.

She had also taken notice of , who was also here. That's right ... he did say that he was a ranger Elaina thought to herself. Elaina walked over to the table where the rest of the food was; setting the container of the freshly-made macarons on the table. She then decided to take a look around. After all, there were a bunch of her fellow co-workers here that she had yet to meet, let alone speak with. One particular person was her first-in-command . Despite the two of them never having the pleasure to meet yet. Elaina decides though that it'd be best for the time being to find a seat at a vacant table. If someone wished to speak with her then she'd be more than welcome, but she felt it'd be rude to introduce herself while they all greeted their own familiar faces

as all the rangers mingle in, everything seems to be going just as planned. at first, ollie had been a little apprehensive at being able to get everyone together. he figured that evergrande would be a good place to do it, to gather morale after everything that had happened in hoenn in the last few months.

Oliver saw a lot of idle chatter. He more wanted to relax as he contemplated that strange Pokemon's words a bit more. Of all times that the encounters popped up in his mind, it was just before a major meeting. He had made his reports about the likely Psychic-types abilities and words, but nothing is known about it. The red head soon found himself being greeted by another ranger. he believed was her name. "Yo. Go ahead. Julia Davis, right? I don't think we officially introduced ourselves. Oliver Shrakes." At least he didn't believe so. He more or less just heard her name through the grapevine. He didn't really remember if she was one of the ones to make the last meeting interesting. Likely not.

He would have remembered if she did. Well, he hoped so, so much happened that it was hard to keep up who was hurling insults or food at who. Or airing out greivances in the most unproffessional ways possible. "Any chance you know what this meeting is about?" Looking at the time, he didn't realize it was actually pretty close to starting. Well, maybe he'll get the answer to his question sooner than expected.

Shalin landed next to Ever Grande's Ranger HQ, jumping off her Shiny Beedrill's back as her Noivern crouched down. Piccolo had kept the girl's leftover birthday cake as stable as possible. She had bought two bakery-size cakes, but only one had been consumed while at the party; the other was still sealed! She took the cake off the Noivern, withdrew both her flying Pokémon, and sent out her Persian, Serena. The saddled feline nuzzled her trainer before walking alongside her in the building. She was ready to withdraw her Pokémon, but didn't have to; she caught an empty elevator! Perhaps everyone was already there!

She made her way to the top floor's largest conference space, dressed in her green uniform. Setting the birthday cake down, she saw many familiar faces, including . "Hey there, Annalise!" she greeted as her Persian walked next to her, the trainer giving her a gentle scratch behind the ear. "Verdanturf accidentally ordered the wrong size uniform the first time, but we got it straightened out. Glad to be here!" Her eyes shifted to see the many Rangers she was friends with or was familiar with; there were simply too many to name.

As the rangers continue to shuffle in and mingle about, those who pay attention can notice a conversation spawning between Evergrande's Ranger Captain and one .[break][break]

“If I said no could I go home?” the younger ranger lightly jest with his usual monotone tune. Hopefully the other ranger experienced enough with him to know when Razz attempts a joke. As it was he was being pretty antisocial as he just kept to his corner with his arms crossed, his only interaction being with Ollie himself and the simple nod he gave when the other attempted to greet him. Nerves making it a struggle to focus on anything else. [break][break]

Though in the end he knows it had to be done as decisions have been made. So in the end he nods, and let’s grab the crowd’s attention with a sharp whistle and a clap of his hand loud enough to easily make him the center of attention. ”Alright everyone thank you all for coming and for your contributions, it’s time to get things started and I’ll let Razz here give you the first update!” with an encouraging slap on the back Ollie let’s Razz continue. “Thank you all for coming,” the young ranger begins as he tries to steel his nerves in front of the crowd. Salem pushes up slightly against him with a mental push and in the end it does relax him enough to get through this. “For those of you who don’t know,” because there will always be those who were out of date, “Miss has chosen to step down as Head Ranger, and we would like to thank her for her work while she held her position.” Razz pauses to allow any clapping the rangers wanted to give to congratulate the young lady for her work. [break][break]

“But as our numbers continue to grow the league has appointed me as your new Head Ranger to work along side mr ,” while he knows his fellow head ranger prefers the shorter nickname, with such a professional setting, and topic Razz couldn’t bring himself to do that. Once again Razz allows a small pause so that the rangers could take in the information that the once Silph Ranger was now partially in charge of them. “I will do my best for you all while I am here, and effective immediately I will be working out of Slateport City for the time being,” because he does have hope that one day they would regain control over Sootopolis once more. “I you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask them now and I’ll answer to the best of my ability before and will take the floor with more news.”

at his friend's joke, ollie lets out a laugh. "if only it could be that easy."

[break][break] ollie knew that was not exactly the most enthusiastic public speaker, but he also knew that razz was one of the people who were most enthusiastic about the rangers in general. to ollie, that was enough. he knew that had placed the other ranger in the position for a reason, and he hoped that everyone else would see it too.
