Despite being a contest performer, Luka really isn't great at public speaking. Thank goodness for ollie morales's natural charm and charisma— the man's mere presence seems to liven up every room. She's like to accompany him when he descends the stage, but she's got more work to do behind the scenes. Maybe she'll catch up to him later?[break][break]

By the time she can finally catch a break, the festivities are already in full swing. And how lovely it is, seeing everyone having a good time! Pulling everything together had been such hard work, but knowing it's all paid off makes everything absolutely worth it. Luka's heart swells as she looks out among the crowd, picking out a few familiar faces here and there. Idly, she wonders where Remiel Calcifet and Isaac Merlo are— they'd been such a great help, after all. But they're probably busy too![break][break]

She finally heads into the snow herself, her Vulpix trotting happily by her side. Picking up a handful of fluff, she starts forming what looks to be a very tiny snowboy— maybe she'll just make a miniature one this year? As she starts sculpting it, she notices Tai Liu working on his own sculpture, and starts plodding through the snowdrifts to meet him.[break][break]

The festivities are well underway, but there's still plenty more to come. Eventually, all festival-goers hear the cheerful chiming of bells coming from the Draconid shrine. One of Remiel Calcifet's Salamence roars, spitting a jet of flame harmlessly into the air above the shrine. And with that, the shrine is officially open![break][break]

Conceptualized and organized by Remiel Calcifet, the replica Draconid shrine is the center point for this week’s activity. Decorated with an excess of red and gold sashes, it shines as a celebratory beacon of the new year. Isaac Merlo's ice sculpted Rayquaza stands across from it, looming at the center of a plaza filled with small bonfires, seating areas, tables, and red mailboxes adorned with ritual rope.[break][break]

At the bottom of the Rayquaza sculpture, a plaque reads:[break][break]

The 'Ascent of Good Tidings' is a tradition with roots in the ancient Draconid people. Historically, participants wrote down their aspirations or goals for the new year and stored them in envelopes marked by Rayquaza. The envelopes are then gathered, blessed, and swapped so that others may instill their hopes and dreams for the new year, and share in seeing the aspirations of their fellow Hoennians through. Afterward, the envelopes are returned and stored in the shrine until being burned at the end of the year.

While Makoto skated under the watch of the dragon statues, including that of Rayquaza, their pokemon were up to plenty of shenanigans.

Kama chittered happily as he put together a number of tiny Snowboys, scattered around the area. Tsukiko, too, seemed to be trying to put together snowboys... But it was hard for her, as a quadruped, to really manipulate objects the way that Kama could. So, she was settling for something a bit larger and cruder, in the center of the tiny snowboy swarm.

Nearby, Yurei laid down underneath a tree, watching the pokemon at work.

With Bibidi's help, there's very little pain as El skates along the ice without their cane. Sure, perhaps they could've gone for a different sort of mobility aid - there were walkers made for this, right? - but at the same time... Getting to cheat every once in awhile, and do a few laps around the rink, was nice.

But, the distant roar of a Salamence drew their attention - and they glanced over to see a shrine, set up not unlike the one in Meteor Falls. Huh...

Sharing a glance and a smile with Bibidi, they'd work to get out of the skates - ready to switch back to using a cane before they risk throwing out their knee.

Yumi laughed with delight as nabi park joined the snowball fight. She nodded, grinning. "It does. Everyone lets go of their worries and becomes almost like a kid again." [break][break]

Something she wished she could do at times, even though she was grateful for the events of the past couple of years. If she hadn't left home, she would never have grown in the way she had, nor met the important people in her life. [break][break]

Bending down, Yumi scooped up snow in her mittened hands and packed it tightly into a ball. While her Cubchoo continued working on their snowboy, she lobbed the snowball in ollie morales's direction. [break][break]

“You know,” he began as he conspiratorially leaned down to whisper in her ear, “…Mr Rose always kept his word and would come on time. I don’t know about this one, though…”

Look, it was the gay friend in him just rearing its concerned head, okay?! Where was her partner, anyway?!

(Plus it didn’t help that he knew Mr Rose personally to boot [and was also probably one of the few people that respected him, in all honesty, when Gym Leaders were concerned].)

Either way…

“Oh, hey, you want to check out the Draconid Shrine?” he offered as he tilted his head in the direction of aforementioned shrine. Maybe this was related to the one that was in Meteor Falls…? He knew that the same shrine from before had opened its doors once more, so there was that…

“Come on, let’s go! Gotta keep ourselves busy while waiting for your partner to show up…” he teased, as he led the way to said shrine, offering macarons to anyone they would pass (come and take one or several, just leave some for the next person to get too).

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Absorbed in deeply important artistic deliberations about creating the perfect snowboy, Aurelie didn't notice at all as her bored Alolan Sandshrew started rolling away through the snow. Clearly enjoying itself in the frosty weather, the little Pokemon slid happily across the ground on its ice-covered, steel-hard back. Even though it couldn't quite roll itself into a ball, it wandered across the meadow at an increasingly rapid pace...

That is, until the Sandshrew collided with a large sphere of snow that Beau Fontaine was packing together some distance away. Even Aurelie looked up, startled, at the resulting fountain of snow erupting in the corner of her eye. Then she gasped and slapped her palm against her forehead when she realized her Pokemon had disrupted another trainer's creation process.

"Verglas! No! That was very bad!" she shouted, hurrying across the path that her Sandshrew had carved through the snow. "Come back here! I'd make you apologize if I thought I could manage it!"

As the Sandshrew disconsolately rolled back in her general direction, Aurelie glanced up at the other trainer and offered a sheepish smile. "I'm so sorry about that! I can...maybe help you with your snowboy for a little while? To make up for all that Sandshrew destruction?"

There was a pause, and the girl's demeanor changed a bit, had she asked something wrong? Yuina was a bit worried, she wasn't meaning to create any kind of tension, or awkwardness, but it seemed that was exactly what happened...[break]
And then, just when she was about to speak, naming a place perhaps, Yuina gasped as a spray of snow caught her head! Yuina ducked, putting her hands up to avoid the snow that rained down around them then at the impact of a snowball that hit dead on. And then she saw fury.[break][break]
"Oh wait! Don't hit anyone else," Yuina tried to save face, throwing snow all willy nilly was sure to hit someone unintended, but snowballs were flying left and right in earnest from everyone getting in on the festivities for the year of the dragon. "Hm, yes, that's good," Gracie Mae hummed to herself as she made the final touches of her snowboy, or rather, snow dragonite. It wasn't particularly large in size, standing at about half her size, and the shapes were still round. What made hers different was the added tail at the back and several branches she used to create the wings at the back. The most detail was in the head piece which she carefully formed into the shape of a dragonite's beak. But even after all her work, the snowboy was sloppy. Even a trained eye would have a hard time figuring out it was supposed to be a dragonite.[break][brea]

Gracie Mae smiled at a confused darumaka, its head bobbing in confusion at the abomination she had just created for them. "Well, it is the year of the dragon, isn't it?" she retorted playfully.[break][break]

Mawile is rolling up snow as best she can while Tai helps out. It didn’t snow where they were originally raised, being near a volcano and all— so they were enjoying every second of the snowfall. As Toshiaki enjoys the sights of the festival he wonders briefly, from the involvement of the RANGER AMNESTY program if they were accepting any volunteers. Granted he doesn’t want to spread himself too thin, but he likes to help out however he can. Who knows. Maybe YEAR OF THE DRAGON will grant him luck in his athletic endeavors.[break][break]

With the skates off and cane back in hand, El would get up onto their feet. The blaze of a Flamethrower through the air was like a beacon to the shrine that stood here - a near exact replica to the Draconic shrine that they had visited not long ago. It was impressive, the amount of work that must have gone into it all...

... And well, could you blame El, for wanting to admire all the details at hand, both this and the sculptures that Isaac Merlo had made? It was beautiful, every bit of these festivities...!

As Kama and Tsukiko were hard at work with their respective Snowboy projects, though... A certain little Eevee was attempting to mingle with the dragon-types present here! With her Disguise, Ryuko looked a good deal like a draconic eeveelution - aside from perhaps size, one could easily mistake her for some new species!

But, she was still an Eevee underneath - as much as she would rather otherwise. After visiting that shrine before, something about dragons all spoke to her. Perhaps, if she spent enough time amongst them, she could be more like them?

As the pack mingled about, it was only a matter of time before they'd brush with the dragons that were similarly hanging around. Of course, interactions were respectful and amicable - Anne and Anat enforced it - but Ettie was curious to see the different beasts present here. As her pokemon played and socialized with some of them, the wildchild took note of the different species present.

For the most part, dragons seemed to be more independent creatures, Ettie noted. But even then, they were able to come together like a pack - even if not the same sort of pack as what she and her pokemon had... What were the dynamics like, she wondered?

Taking a few of the macarons from the box that Alexei had with him, the woman pops them into her mouth and savors the sweet filling of those cookies. “They’re really good, you’ve put a lot of love into them.” She spoke to her friend with a lot of praise for how he made his macarons before a snowball is thrown at her. “Wh-” Since her reaction time wasn’t the best, Alex himself had thrown the snowball at her.[break][break]

“I’ll get you for that!” She balls up another snowball and tries throwing it at the blond gym leader and she does say it in a way that she’d tease him back too. While everything was changing to Miss Chene announcing that there was a Draconid shrine, he begins to ask about her partner. “Oh, I don’t think you met with him. Cade is…my personal guard and he was asked by my father to be my bodyguard here.” She gives a sigh when it had been 30 minutes now that he hasn’t come yet. “He comes from a knightly family that served the Galarian royal family for a long time and we’ve been friends since we were children…”[break][break]

Elise remembered that Amor Rose had always come when she spent time with him on their dates. “I was always worried since Cade is so distant now. Ever since we got back from that incident with the Megalopolans, he has refused to tell me what’s wrong with him.” Was he really going to be like Mr. Rose and not open up to her about what’s wrong? Her thoughts were interrupted by Alex talking to her about the Draconid Shrine and where they can check out the shrine itself.[break][break]

“Yes, I’ll check it out with you." She gives Alexei a small smile when he spoke that they could do it while waiting for her partner to show up. “I’m sure Cadeyrn Osmond will turn up eventually.” Her Mismagius floats by her side while she looks around for the sight of the red-headed knight.
