His companions fuss over him, but in the haze of panic and adrenaline it feels fuzzy, almost annoying. But he doesn't snap at them, merely hide away his bared teeth and set the stolen knife on another table when Father Ward tries to soothe him. It difficult with the ghost shenanigans pushing him further and further into innate aggression. But he holds enough of his facilities to understand his new companions mean him no harm and sort of listens. [break][break]

The ghosts irritate him however. Their illusions and taunting annoy him, and instead of exploring the mansion he's stuck inside with no obvious escape. "I-...'M Fine-" he managed, voice hesitant as it came out with difficult when he looked at the priest. They are intent on helping him, as if he's the problem. [break][break]

And then, as quickly as the evening had soured, it all stopped. The doors slammed open and the beginning rays of a new dawn filtered in. And paxton concordas straightened up, blinking as gently touching his throat. His head cleared and his expression relaxed. "I-" he coughed lightly, swallowing as and looking around as Ivy disappeared. He'd seen her with a child (Eris Halla ) and now nothing. Was she back inside? Another blink before he turned to his companion once more. [break][break]

"Sorry for the scare." His frivolous accent disappears, and he carefully takes off the half mask he'd been wearing to rub the lines it left away. "I'm feeling better, probably the fresh air." he said before smiling as he offered his hand for a shake once more. "Also, I should reintroduce myself. I got a little carried away earlier." he added, quirking the same smile as before. [break][break]

A tug on her dress makes the well-dressed Galarian turn towards Eris Halla . That small girl asks if she’s doing alright and the facade was slowly slipping off. “I am doing fine, thank you.” Ivy’s lips grace itself with a small smile before she’ll watch the ghosts go about their business during the night. Her time was up now and as much as she enjoyed talking with her two new male friends, she imagined that Isaac Ward and paxton concordas would have a fine talk with each other.[break][break]

“But I suppose…I will have to take my leave during the night.” Ivy says in a wistful tone. “I’ve had my fun here, but my time has come to an end. I wished to have fun and I was very glad that I have gotten to do so.”[break][break]

As it turned out, whatever fearful spell had beset the guests in this mansion was dispelled just as quickly as it had overcome them. With a sudden rush of wind, the locked doors slammed open, and whatever terrible malady that had plagued the other man simply vanished. Isaac felt incredibly relieved, and he smiled genuinely as St. Claire regained his senses, [break][break]

“Oh, thank heavens you're alright!” [break][break]

He relinquished his hold on the other man's arm and turned to the enigmatic Lady Tudor to relay the good news. But, how strange – he could have sworn that she was standing right here just a moment ago. Isaac frowned, confused, but was distracted from this mystery when his companion spoke up again. [break][break]

Another change had overcome him, the priest soon came to realize – gone was the strange affectation to his voice, and gone was the mask he wore, in more ways than one. At least that charming smile remained, and that was good enough for Isaac. He slipped off his own mask with one hand and took Paxton's own with the other, and smiled warmly at this new introduction, [break][break]

“It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, paxton concordas. Truly.” [break][break]

Isaac wouldn't hold it against him for that bit of trickery; many men wore many masks for many reasons, after all. It was a reality that the priest himself was well-acquainted with, but he could sincerely appreciate Paxton's desire to set the record straight. Revelation was vulnerability, an extension of trust, and the priest was not keen to betray it. [break][break]

Though they were free to leave, and Isaac imagined many would take the immediate opportunity to do so, it would be a pity to leave the night so soured by their ordeal. Distantly, the priest thought he could still make out the notes of some ghostly melody; his hand slipped from Paxton's, and when he spoke again, he bowed deeply at the waist, [break][break]

“Before we abscond from this place, would you allow me the privilege of a final dance?”

As the night buried them all in dramatic twists and turns, the intensity and anticipation had risen to a boiling point. At some point, she had wrapped her arms around Silverio's, though it was unclear if it was from anxiety or excitement. The ghost chattered and laughed around them as the statue clue gave way to others, as the reveal stunned the masquerade participants altogether. Zorua and Zoroark? [break][break]

She had hoped for some magnificent possession or other ghostly connection, but the trickster pokemon were interesting. She hadn't seen it coming at all. [break][break]

"This is badass," she assured Silverio. She extracted herself from him belatedly, feeling sheepish at such a childish reaction. "I got a little caught up in it all." The closest she could manage for an apology. "I kind of wish it'd been scarier. But the blood on the walls is pretty tight, yeah?" She grinned and selected some new berry appetizer to try. "Maybe we ought to try and take one of these ghosts with us. I bet they have some stories to tell."

suppose that an answer has finally been found, to an unspoken question that had previously come to silverio's mind, that is. robin's enjoyment of this wildly unorthodox scenario is proving to be far more scarier than whatever has just transpired, as if her practically clinging to him isn't enough of an indicator of such. and speaking of answers, they ultimately present themselves in the form of a species of pokémon that are said to be notorious of their exploits as illusionists.[break][break]

Much as Makoto had begun to suspect, the trickery afoot was the result of a Zorua and Zoroark duo. It was all quite clever - perhaps they could learn a few tricks from the duo, to pass on to their own foxes. Particularly the speech, given how chatty the two 'humans' had been.

As the curse lifts, they are able to once more bring out Kama and Kuro - the both of whom are puzzled by the whole matter; but find nothing immediately amiss, as the manor returns to normalcy. They'd let the duo enjoy themselves for a little bit longer - it seemed only fair, really...

For what it's worth, the priest doesn't seem too put out with the costume reveal. He's glad it's not entirely disappointing. He did really like playing along with masquerades. A bit of a flair for the theatrics seemed to have rubbed off on him even all these years later. His handshake is firm, happy there's no hard feelings. The deem tones of a string quarter was still audible, and there wasn't really a force shoving them out just yet. [break][break]

He returned the bow, eyes raising from the ground to meet Isaac Ward 's before offering his hand. "What kind of man would I be if I didn't?" He hadn't practiced his steps just to go away without putting his dancing shoes to good use. [break][break]

"Truthfully, this is the part I was looking forward to the most." Dancing always soothed his mind, and it always led to very interesting conversation, no matter the partner. Which only led to an even better dancing experience. As they make their way back onto the dance floor he snickers at the awkwardness of his feet. The edges of whatever spell he'd been under stiffening his legs. "The first steps may be a little shaky, but it'll pass." he added as they began to glide and twirl, honoring the ghostly efforts with one final dance.

As the curtains lift, oppressive shadows stop weighing on her shoulders - memories returning, the Misdreavus pealing herself out of her Pokéball most stubbornly, floating around most familiarly. Vespa holds her pounding head, not even sure what just happened - not quite sure if she should celebrate the cause, or maybe find it more disturbing. There is still so much that she has to learn about all that happens with everything there is ... Ghosts are truly odd, huh?[break]

Feeling a chill peck by her cheek, the way Quinn is nuzzling against her, Vespa is soon smiling again, however, grinning and patting the Ghost type. "Naww, don't tell me you've been worried about me?" she hums, adjusting her Wooper mask that now does not feel as glued to her face anymore, not like it's a second skin she can't get off again. Now that the big mystery is quite solved, there is only so much more to do, like ... She looks at Cassandra Kubrick, Thea Naito and DESIREE BLOOMS, whichever of them is still around and willing to stay at this place with a newfound grin, "I'm gonna stuff my face full with ice cream now! Or, whatever I can find." At least in this thing, Pokémon partner and Pokémon trainer are synchronising ridiculously well, heading off to the buffet once more, ...[break]

... quite unaware of a Mimikyu's gaze, wondering.

TL;DR

- Vespa wears a Wooper mask and a mintgreen dress, and she is no longer accompanied by her partner Quinn Crisp the Misdreavus who wears a Grookey mask. Apparently called 'Woo'.[break]
- Misdreavus returns to her side as she regains composure and continues to enjoy the festivities a little more, by storming the buffet and seeing if she can find any ice cream or other treats.[break]

The mystery is solved and Cass, bit by bit, feels like herself again, as does Vespa Baskerville next to her, and hopefully DESIREE BLOOMS and Thea Naito as well. So much so that she and her Misdreavus actually head out towards the buffet once more. "Huh?" Cass murmurs to herself, before she starts shaking off the feeling of unease. Immediately, her Trubbish Jon ends up in her arms again, though she's hesitant about calling the others yet - in case there's another shenanigan happening.

However, she does spot another ghost, seemingly looking at her - or in her general direction. As soon as her gaze lingers for a mere second, the Greavard barks happily, running towards her with a body language singing affection. She recalls what she's read about these pokémon, but also truly ... how could she not add this adorable (life draining) puppy to her team?

It was no real bomb, though it felt like one had gone off in her mind; cloaked fractals were revealed one by one, shedding memories once retained as if they were shards of diamonds rather than strands of thought.[break][break]

”My memories have returned~! Oh, thank goodness,” she sighed in relief, dropping the fox mask on the ground almost faster than her limbs allowed, ”.. and thank goodness for all of you~! I can’t imagine what would have occurred if I hadn’t found a lil’ group to hang around inside.”[break][break]

Releasing her tiny little Foongus, it trilled in delight as it saw Desiree donning nothing but her ordinary face tattoos. It had learned much of the last time she had been masked from one of its fellow mushrooms- and sat in paranoia within its orb all this time, fearing what could have been.[break][break]

”It was a pleasure to meet you all.. and to see you again, Helm,” she smiled, ”.. I’m going to make my departure now. Au revoir~!”[break][break]

As she left, she couldn’t believe how easily she fell into yet another trap. Had it been not for any mind but her own.. she needed to shake that thought, but she couldn’t. Would it have been worse than the toxic chains?[break][break]

It would be best to forget this night- save for the friends she had made along the way.

When the mystery of Hollowcrest Hall was solved and the doors swung open once more, Aurelie blinked in abject confusion at all the events that transpired. She found herself grateful that other guests had solved the riddles set by the ghost Pokemon. Thank Arceus her spirit wasn't trapped here for all eternity just because she'd been hoping for some free food and a fun party.

Despite her confusion over the riddle and its solution, the redhead breathed a profound sigh of relief when her mask finally came off. Part of her wished she could've been more useful. But a much larger part of her was just happy to see the first rays of daylight spilling through the windows.

But she wasn't quite ready to leave yet. As far as Aurelie was concerned, the mysteries set by the Zorua and Zoroark had mostly had the effect of spoiling a perfectly good party. She'd barely gotten to enjoy herself yet!

And there was still music playing, and food waiting to be eaten, and some people still lingering within the mansion...

Looping the strings of her mask around her wrist, she looked around at the rapidly dispersing crowd for the two figures that'd kept her company for most of the masquerade party. Aurelie's face lit up with surprise and pleasure when she recognized oscar clayton. So it really was him! she thought. Even if he seemed weirdly scared...and then just weird...

She flashed a smile at Alba Evovae as well as she approached the two of them again. "It's so nice to meet you both for real, without masks hiding us this time. And even better, without the terror of ghosts and spirits and sinister Pokemon hanging over our heads!"

Especially when the tricks played by those sinister Pokemon had touched on some unhealed wounds in her psyche. Of all the things she'd forgotten, the Megalopolan prison hadn't been one of them. Aurelie gritted her teeth and forced herself to smile, trying to soldier on past those memories.

"Well, we have a little while left, I think, before the party ends," she went on, the color in her cheeks heightening. "And I think I recognize that tune! I think I remember it from Kalos, when I was little."

Carelessly, the redhead extended a hand to Alba and met his gaze with what she could only hope looked like confidence. "So, let's dance! At least so we can end the party on a happier note than it began."

███████ wasn't certain of what response to expect from her companion, as he might well think her a fool; but upon his answer, her smile transformed from a mere politeness to a display of true joy that lit her eyes up. Still smiling, she took his hand and let him lead the way. Not only was he willing to indulge her, but he was also a gentleman about doing so. How charming.

When they reached the ballroom, it became plain that she would have to take the lead moving forward; but that suited her just as well. She laughed, as softly as the murmur of a seashell, and guided ████████ to place one hand about her waist.

One song turned into two, then into three, and before long she wasn't marking the beat for him anymore but simply enjoying herself. It was all too easy to enjoy herself, to let the night carry her into another world, to forget. She wouldn't have traded this time spent in the ballroom for all the mysteries in the world.

"Well then, that's our little conundrum solved. It was my pleasure to dance with you in the meantime. Shall we head out together?" She entwined her arm with her companion's without waiting for his answer. "I did take my mask off, but it's late for introductions... How about we leave some of the mysteries unsolved?
