THE MODIFICATION AND ADJUSTMENT OF GENETICS TO MAGNIFY AVATARS




MAGMA. A name whispered in rumor for months, kept hidden behind closed doors as Rocket leaders made plans. The name is enough to earn at least consideration but today you may be provided answers; with a price, of course. An open meeting set up in the artificial sunlight of the community gardens, doors locked unless you agree to all the terms and conditions for entrance.

Pokemon exist for the glory of Rocket.

And so do you.

While this is an open meeting, a number of Team Rocket's members were invited specifically to the event. Walsh, , the head scientists and . The Beasts and Admins, , , , , , , , . A few other curious names sit with them- namely , , .

M.A.G.M.A. was an initiative Rowan had heard rumbling of when he first joined the organization, the planned establishment of a program to artificially create avatars in order to combat the growing number of those among the League enforcers. Hearing about avatars was one thing but seeing their raw strength during the invasion of Sootopolis was another beast entirely. There was no doubt these experiments would become necessary before long, otherwise Rocket might risk being wiped out in the face of the collective powers of A.Q.U.A. and their soldiers. Especially now that was among their ranks.

"Underboss Choi." A small nod of greeting was given towards the normally jovial , recognizing this meeting as business instead of the whimsical interactions he was used to with the man. Besides, he wanted to look official as a Rocket Beast in front of the grunts that had been in attendance.

It felt like Izzy had given everything to Team Rocket, and still they asked for yet more.[break][break]

He was a nobody, but he was a nobody that picked up every last scrap of work and did everything, no questions asked, no comments made - the dirtiest of dirty. He'd heard of MAGMA; faintly, in hushed whispers, never anything concrete, or anything that didn't contain codewords he didn't want to worry about unravelling. He was just there for the money. To be rewarded might be his undoing, but to be rewarded may mean a life with less struggle. Nicer clothes. More food on the table. Winter was on it's way - he'd need heating for the apartment. It was finally time. Bryan had been contacted by about Project M.A.G.M.A. Keeping the secret from really weighed on him but hopefully he wouldn't have to keep it a secret for much longer. For extra Insurance as well to give the group even more option's, Bryan had even brought the rest of the blue mulch incase the sample that he gave the underboss was not enough. He was scared someone would steal it but at least they'd be confined to the sub and with the people he's forged alliances with there as well he felt it would be safe enough to bring it. He brought the little bag with him and handed it to chu-e. It was surprisingly heavy. "I brought the rest of it if we needed it. I hope you remember the promise you made me." What may have sounded as a threat to others should have held a different meaning to Chu-e. If he died, Chu-e was to take care of Soleil for him. [break][break]

Faith: The belief that someone or something knows more than you do. In this case, the belief that had found a way to bend the rules of Avatarship. A loophole in the bindings of power.

Being an Avatar meant forging a sacred bond between one person and one legendary. Except, that wasn't quite true. There were always exceptions. was the avatar for one and a half legendaries, and Darkrai was the avatar for both Declan Walsh and . The mechanics were unclear, and inconsistent.  

It's not easy to find loopholes when you don't know the rules. But if you can't finesse an answer, then it's time for brute force and sheer numbers.

Bill looked around at the room full of willing test subjects. For the glory of Team Rocket indeed. That's what I love about grunts. Always so eager.

When he has mentioned wanting to become better at serving Rocket, human experimentation hadn’t been his first thought. His first thought had been training more with , earning about pokemon, helping and research…whatever the hell it was they researched. This? This unnerved him. This was probably why Jayden was the way e was, ready to die for a cause. He wasn’t all the way there, but after tonight he sure as hell needed to be. Especially when after this there’s wouldn’t be anyone, he could talk to about it. Pain of death notwithstanding, his only friend wasn’t speaking to him. Not that he blamed @artemis for it. He figured a few gifts wouldn’t clear the air, but he had hoped it might at least bring them both to table. At the very least, if Artemis wasn’t speaking to him…he hoped he was at least talking to . [break][break]

He pushed away these thoughts. There were bigger issues at hand. had explained it to him in simple terms and it had sounded easy enough…but sitting amongst the higher echelons of rocket made it all feel more…real. He wanted to cower in the back corner in all honestly, but he forged ahead carrying a practiced smile and looking for the eyes of those he vaguely recognized. Chu-e would be leading the presentation, that was obvious enough. He spotted by the wayside, recognizing him as Shadow Lugia’s owner from that one meeting called and the many times had described her uncle. The mental image is not at all accurate and he has no idea how in the hell they’d convince a man so menacing to use their partner for slap chicken tests. [break][break]

Mint is quick to give a little wave, overly familiar with her even. But one had to appreciate and respect the woman that gave him all sorts of little gadgets and toys to mess around with outside of HQ. His eyes finally find and there is visible shock plain as day on his face, breaking the complacent smile he’d been carrying just moments earlier. He’s about to call out to him when he remembered where he was, flinching back into that careful calm once more. He really, really didn’t know all that much about Rocket’s power structure. That explained the gaps in his memory as he looked at others. Or maybe it all went back down to a lack of caring. He got mission orders, and completed missions, end of story. He didn’t work directly under anyone…until recently that is. [break][break]

He moved to his feet, stepping over carefully to . “I saved you a seat.” he said before looking over at the podium and then back at Bryan. “What did you give him…?” he asked gently, trying to make conversation before the feast of knowledge began.

The communal gardens in the submarine had the most peculiar artificial lights. It's as if you summoned more or less light by drawing blinds open or shut. It was like a psychological experiment, trying to stay in there for too long.

The steady drip of people into the room led to the recruiter catching wind of it. Months passed since his time in the lab. Since the already anemic looking man felt his stomach tie itself in knots under the Big Gun. That certainly weighed on his mind. His hair grew out between now and then.

He sat in a seat, trying to be front-row if possible, but not eager for attention. Then again... maybe he wanted to be singled out. In his white button-up and plum-colored slacks. After time and time again talking a big game and getting nothing done.

The meeting seemed to be already underway, lead by at a raised podium. Met by a throng of people, whom they both knew. Giona glanced around. Very briefly, he tried to meet the gaze of , whom he'd met briefly.

By the time Serena arrived plenty of people were already gathered. She checked the watch on the underside of her wrist once more before a light 'hmph' escaped her lips. She was was on time, it just seemed everyone else was early. She assumed she'd been invited due to her own interest on the project after she had spoken with both and . She was glad to finally see things taking off and coming together. [break][break]

That just meant she was one step closer to seeing her plans come to fruition. An eerie wave of anxiety settled in her stomach nonetheless. Not because she was scared of what was to come, but perhaps of the future. By participating in this meeting and agreeing to the terms Serena was essentially agree to signing away her soul. Or what little of it was left. [break][break]

This would truly be the mark of her descent. The last piece of morality that she had before would be tossed out of the window in favor for the glory and restoration of Team Rocket and her own personal agendas. Knowing that was what was waiting for her in the immediate future she was terrified but she was prepared to do whatever it took to see her desires come true.[break][break]

Serena saw familiar faces all over but it was that she decided to approach. She sat next to him with a soft sigh and crossed her legs while her eyes settled on her mentor. "How are you feeling?" she asked softly before amber hues turned towards him, "Ready for the meeting?" she asked with a hint of a small smirk on her lips. "Everyone looks so....intense."

The rumor train is a tricky, fickle bitch. You could only pry so much before the entire thing fell to dust at your feet, never to be mentioned or addressed again. Swept under the rug and forgotten.

But now the door was left wide open.

Now the temptation to explore was right there, so close, all she had to do was compromise her body and her values.

The answer should be obvious- but the desire, the desperation to know more, to understand was greater than self-preservation.

And the trickle of temptation is cruel, too.

This is everything you wanted, once.

But the thought of being Rocket's guinea pig didn't really sit well. Unfortunately, it isn't enough to deter her. Remi hangs off the wall, shoulder pressing close in order to keep a low profile. If she was lucky, maybe she'd go unnoticed and escape with valuable information relating to avatars and her brother and what had happened to him.

That's funny.

Remi scans the room, but stops short on a shock of bright blue, minty green hair. She blinks, frowns, squints, stares.

THE WHITE PORCELAIN OF HIS MASK gleams off the courtyard's faux daylight as he stands there, arms crossed and protruding out from the deep sable of his cloak. A gloved finger taps against the edge of his padded elbow with steady rhythm, though the cause of it relates to , and not some catchy tune ADMIN FOX might have playing on repeat in his head.

The admin didn't have time to obsess (or distress) about the royal's ongoing investigations and tribulations, however. The admin had come to witness Rocket's next stage, and he'd come to acquire potential candidates for S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Several were already in attendance ( , , ). But M.A.G.M.A. was sure to produce more who fit the qualifications needed, he thought. Avatars against avatars, after all.

So he stands there, silent and observant, waiting for history to be made. Meanwhile, in some distant room, filling the darkness with its own static blue light, a lightning stiletto crackles. A precautionary measure against those who would run.
