HOSTED BY THE LEAGUE'S COUNCIL, for this year's annual League Holiday party, the Mossdeep Observatory was transformed into a celestial wonderland, blending the magic of the cosmos with festive cheer. As guests step inside, the soft glow of twinkling starlight illuminates the room, creating an enchanting atmosphere, where shimmering silver and gold ornaments, shaped like planets and striking comets, hang delicately among the stars, catching the light in a dazzling dance.[break][break]

At the center of the dance floor, acting as the night's centerpiece, the observatory's telescope majestic stands proudly. Garnish, red ribbons, and festive lights decorate its stem, mimicking the appearance of a Christmas tree.

Surrounding it are twelve cube-shaped pedestals, each concealed with a green or red velvet cloth. Guests whisper and theorize what might hide underneath. References to the ‘Twelve Days of Yuletide’ perhaps? Meanwhile, white elephant offerings collect at the center of the observatory theater room nearby, creating a dive-worthy pile beneath its celestial frescoes of the cosmos.

Pressed against the walls were the tables. Dressed in red and green, they provided the night with food and soft drinks. Anything alcoholic could be found at bar, or plucked off the plates of the abundant waitstaff. [break][break]

Soft instrumental renditions of holiday classics fill the air, enhancing the sense of wonder and joy. As guests mingle and enjoy the cosmic ambiance, its hard not to feel a sense of awe at the marriage of science and holiday spirit.[break][break]

Paxton is used to going to 'fun' work events he'd rather skip out. Mandatory fun was often tiresome, but arguably necessary event he had once organized and participated in. This year is no different, though it's minor things since the bulk of it is delegated from the council. He is, after all, at PENELOPE LIVY 's beck and call. He almost makes it out of not going when he impresses upon her and ollie morales that he couldn't possibly when he doesn't own a suit. Much less know where to get one on such short notice. [break][break]

"Thank you, mila alexopoulos ." he had said, sullen and through grit teeth as he looked at himself in the white, three piece suit. Golden accents and accessories added by suggestion. Very winter, very white. Bridal almost. He sours further, sighing through his nose. luciano fisk was too busy to show. Understandable, the holiday season was very busy. All kinds of important parties were happening. annalise henderson had vetoed the event for risk of breaking someone's nose in public. [break][break]

Things with Gunner Graves were a little...weird. And Paxton is giving it proper time to breath before he decided to broach the subject again. Better for the both of them. [break][break]

And Penelope? Playing hostess with Ollie and a fucking terrorist. Sorry Remiel Calcifet , ex-terrorist. Allegedly. He didn't blame his friend for ditching in the slightest. He turns the schedule in his head, trying to figure out the optimum moment to dip out of the observatory without a word. His cat Olly, a fluffy little Galarian Meowth, follows at his steps, jingling loudly. A golden bell had been attached to his neck. A merry addition one would say. At least he somebody was feeling the Yuletide spirit. "Don't make yourself sick tonight." he warned as the cat skittered after him while he went to grab a bubbly flute and look for his boss.

Nostalgia stabs his heart like a thousand knives. Another year, another winter’s ball. When last he arrived at a party hosted by PENELOPE LIVY and ollie morales, they were his rulers. Melody Miro was the mother of his children. He was Motostoke’s rider and its champion. Now?[break][break]
Now, he’s just Navy. Warrior in service to the League. One of AQUA’s latest inductees, alongside Isaac. A man who feels a bit out of place amidst these dyed in the wool believers. Yet here he is, making his appearance, wondering if he’s going to get a call saying Dewford is under attack while he’s gone.[break][break]
A gentle, wet hand grips his tightly. Looking down, he sees Hattori, his Greninja, holding it. His shinobi smiles up at him, reassuring Navy with a soft smile. His one-eyed frog, burned black by Groudon, still manages to smile. Afterwards, he slips back into Navy’s shadow. There he will hide until he is needed.[break][break]
“This place is pretty, no mistake about it.” He says, more to himself than anyone else, as he takes some eggnog and sips. Finding it to be too early in the night for alcohol, he sips the ordinary sort of eggnog you could find at a grocery store. It’s sweet, almost too sweet for his tastes.[break][break]
Just a few smiles, some light jokes, and he’ll be back in Dewford in no time. Hopefully Melody gets here soon.

Penelope still loathed social events like these, but she still threw them together, time and time again. In the torrent of newly unearthing fears, it was a one solace that kept her steadied. That, and ollie morales.

"Did you rewatch the videos this year," she murmured, leaning over just close enough for their conversation to stay their own. They were back near the gifts, self-tasked with ensuring no thieves came running by. So far so good. Both of them came in matching attire, of course, embodying the very colors of red and gold. For Penelope, this came in the shape of velvet red dress with gold accents and jewelry.

Nursing her festive drink, the councilwoman's eyes lazily swept through the crowding room. So far, she could only make out paxton concordas - who she would wave over if/when eye contact was made.

Eva trickled into the space center’s observatory with the few early birds that were actually on time. She had never perfected the art of being fashionably late. Punctuality was part of her personality, much to her own detriment. Being alone didn’t bother her, it only tickled memories she’d rather not drum up.

She wandered for a moment, inspecting the festive details melted together with the mystery of the cosmos and the STARS. It really was beautiful. That must have been PENELOPE LIVY’s doing, ollie morales couldn’t cook this up. He was probably in charge of the food.

Penny’s fleeting glance didn’t reel in the fish she was hoping for, but the familial draw to her brother eventually pulled her in. She swept up a red, festive drink with what appeared to be silver and gold sparkles suspended throughout as she crossed the room to the duo. Her smile was bright and welcoming, as usual.

“Hi guys!” she slipped in to give her brother a little hug and stood beside him. She held back the frown of disapproval when she noticed their matching attire, “Don’t you two look nice.”

Maybe Eva was a little too casual in her green, Yuletide themed sweater dress and knee-high, heeled boots. She swore the invitation said festive casual. The sweater dress was quite cozy, though, so she had no regrets.

“This is beautiful! Nice work you two,” she held her drink up to cheers theirs as a way of congratulating them for pulling this off so last minute.

No fanfare or a royal announcer normally would announce the arrival of the Royal Galarian Ambassador of Hoenn, but the female royal shows up in a rose-adorned dark blue formal gown, a red headdress atop her head, and long white evening gloves. Social parties like this one had always made her nervous before in her younger days and during the times she came to be at grand royal balls at the Calcifet Palace. This time…she was a little more outgoing and less nervous now, probably because her job did expect her to act more like a dignified royal ambassador than anything.[break][break]

Both Officer Concordas and Sheriff Navidson were there as well as two of the people that hosted the party in the first place. Her gloved hand felt the cold touch of her Mismagius’ robed hand since the ghost gave her comfort after being discharged from the regional hospital in Dewford. The Mossdeep Observatory is decorated in decorations related to the yuletide holidays with colorful bright lights and a decorated Christmas tree wrapped along with presents wrapped with red ribbons.[break][break]

Getting a glass of eggnog herself, she gave the officer and sheriff there a smile and a greeting to Ollie and the councilwoman. “Hello ollie morales and Councilwoman PENELOPE LIVY , I hope you two are well.” Next to them was the familiar form of the blonde woman she recalled doing a mission with too. “And hello to you too, Miss Eva Morales . I hope you are doing well since the last time we met.”

As Gunner admired himself in the mirror in the hallway outside the Observatory, he had to admit: mila alexopoulos had done an amazing job.[break][break]

When he'd mentioned attending the holiday party that the League council was hosting while wearing one of his everyday suits, she'd insisted instead that he let her design and make a bespoke suit befitting the Wintertide season. He'd resisted at first, but she'd never steered him wrong before when it came to clothing. So, eventually, he relented.[break][break]

After adjusting his tie and smoothing a hand over his hair, which he'd styled with maybe a little too much gel, he headed into the Observatory to join the rest of the party. His Umbreon, Laudine, followed at his heels.[break][break]

Almost at once, Gunner spied paxton concordas with a flute of champagne in his hand. Gunner's mood blackened at once, and he almost turned to leave. The crowd shifted, however, and he caught sight of Michael Navidson nursing a drink and looking like he wanted to die.[break][break]

"Mind if I join you?" Gunner asked the Gym Leader as he slipped into the space beside Navy. "We can spend the night concocting an elaborate escape plan."

and while ALEXANDER STONE grabs them drinks, she searches through partygoers until she manages to find Eva Morales standing by PENELOPE LIVY and ollie morales. she brightens and approaches quickly, sliding up to Eva Morales's side.

her attention shifts toward PENELOPE LIVY and ollie morales, next.

"the party looks great - thank you for inviting us!"

she shifts, then, toward Elise Calcifet and extends a warm hand.

"hi, i don't believe we've met before but i love your dress. i'm illeana, it's a pleasure."

and with introductions out of the way, her eyes slide toward the drinks table, searching for ALEXANDER STONE. somehow, despite the furry coat wrapped around her shoulders, she feels less warm without him.

WINTERTIDE TIME!

Kazimir Wynter was not a man who one would probably think would own a suit. Yet he knew that some of these kind of partners were few and far between. So it was always helpful to have something to make himself look nice during these formal events. Luckily having a white tuxedo was great because it matched the one worn by his Urshifu as the two of them slammed the doors to the party wide open as they entered. "Alright bud. Let's have a great time." The two of them bump their fists together and make their way onto the floor.

Domon makes his way towards the table with the most food on it as the smell reaches his nostrils and carries the martial arts bear through the crowd, bumping past people with his large frame as he finds his prey. It doesn't take long for the beast to suddenly start "sampling" anything and everything he can. A true warrior must fill his belly with good food after all.

Kaz was actually trying to find people to spend the night with. Friends, new people, tonight was a night for getting together and celebrating. However when his eyes locked onto the form of Michael Navidson his mind was set and he waved over to him and Gunner Graves who was standing next to him. "Yo! Sheriff! Ain't it a bit early to burn your throat on some drinks?" Or was it that late for it?

This was why Kaz needed to go out and drink some more so these things could be familiar to him.

unlike PENELOPE LIVY, ollie thrived at social events like these. he loved people, and people loved him.

[break][break] such was visible in the way that he greeted each and every one of the people that entered the establishment, with a wide grin and wave, excited to see all his friends and rangers that flooded into the observatory.

[break][break] though, the venue or the decorations or the fanciness of the venue weren't quite his doing. Eva Morales was right; they were the work of PENELOPE LIVY and Remiel Calcifet, both experienced enough at these sorts of things in their own right, that they were able to pull together the party flair with ease that he could never even hope to accomplish.

[break][break] nursing a flute of champagne in his hand, the head ranger let out a laugh at the councilwoman's comment. his lips stretched into a warm smile, just reserved for her. "not this year," he chuckled. "you'll teach me the steps if i forget them though, right?"

[break][break] before he could say more, however, a familiar voice greeted his ears. his sister's small arms wrapped around him and he grinned upon seeing her, unaware of the frown of disapproval at his outfit — or rather, the fact that he'd incidentally matched PENELOPE LIVY. he wore a mix of gold and black, with a bright red armband to match PENELOPE LIVY's scarlet dress. his gold cape matched that of the league's colors, and the same one that he'd worn to the masquerade, the year prior.

[break][break] "aw, thanks sis! i clean up nice, don't i?" he grinned ear-to-ear. his hair was styled back, fringes framing handsomely around his face. his glass clinked hers in greeting.

[break][break] his head tilted towards Elise Calcifet who came up to them next.

[break][break] "oh hey, elise! glad you could make it. you see your cousin around yet?" he asked, referring to Remiel Calcifet. and shortly after, illeana reyes slides in, and ollie's face brightens with ease. "illie! you look pretty."

[break][break] he smiles wide at them both, head tilted when the scientist turns around, seemingly looking for someone.

to some, it was a casual party. to the likes of mila alexopoulos, it was a work event.

[break][break] ever since the invites had been sent out, the calls at PRIMARINA DESIGNS had been ringing off the hook. even though the technical dress-code for the event was festive casual, there were many that wanted to show up to the league event of the season with fancy clothes to impress their colleagues or network with future sponsors.

[break][break] and for mila's sake, she didn't care about rules. she was more than gleeful to provide her customers and friends the fashion advice that they asked for.

[break][break] which included both the likes of Gunner Graves and paxton concordas, whether the two knew it or not.

[break][break] donning a shimmering clutch and gorgeous maroon dress, the fashion designer walked through the glowing lights of mossdeep observatory. her eyes roved the entirety of the space, which drowned in soft, twinkling starlight. immediately her eyes catch the telescope, and she walks towards it, heels clicking against the linoleum floor, placing a small black present underneath the tree for Gunner Graves. inside it, he would find a tuscan leather wallet with his name embroidered on the edge.

[break][break] she stepped away, glancing around the room. she didn't see him right away, but that wasn't surprising considering how well-known he was in the space and the amount of people that were slowly spilling through the room. her eyes caught, instead, on paxton concordas — or rather the suit that he had ordered from PRIMARINA DESIGNS.

[break][break] "hey!" she said, flouncing up to him with ease. ruby-red lips twisted into a smile, as she appraised him, hand on his hip. "looks like it arrived just in time."

[break][break] "you clean up well, sweetheart."

[break][break] though, technically, she preferred him without clothes — but she'd made a promise to Gunner Graves to stop that.

Unfortunately, that small inside joke would have to be their last, because as always, people were quick to flock to Ollie's flame. It was inevitable, and Penelope knew that. He loved people, and people loved him; it's as simple as that. She just wished the first wave of company didn't include her.

"Glad to see you made it." An intricate mask crafted with glee smothered the squirming emotions that threatened to peek through. "Thank you, thank you. Couldn't have done it without all the help we received."

A deluge of faces follow closely after, starting with Elise Calcifet and ending with illeana reyes . Both were greeted with a smile, the ladder more warmer, spurred off from a place of familiarity and relief. "Hi! Hope you two are enjoying yourselves."

Just as she was about to continue, diving deeper into conversation with illeana reyes , a certain response yanked her attention away from the conversation. In one moment, the entire party faded into a simple blackness, dulling the sparkle of the night, and leaving behind only the sway of her own breathing, the monotonous thrumming of her own heart.

he's basically a glorified chaperone. the only real thing that makes his casual outfit festive was a santa hat.

noah wasn't able to come tonight due to working on the power spots business, although it wasn't like he was incentivized to socialize in a function regardless. preventive measures were the ones that manage to call him to the venue.

kyle comes with MATIAS SILPH, who had mentioned in passing about wanting to join.

"we're going back if you make a scene," he tells his friend as they enter. "who do you want to meet here anyways? i can't think of any names."

he'd rather be home, but he really can't leave matias alone in a social gathering without supervision if he can help it. can't pay someone with money to do it either.

Unfortunately, whatever Michael Navidson and Kazimir Wynter said were completely lost on Gunner as soon as mila alexopoulos walked into the spacious chamber. His eyes took in her perfect hair, beautiful face, and gorgeous dress, its color perfectly matching his suit.[break][break]

The hem of its skirt barely brushed the tops of her knees, and his throat went dry with dirty thoughts.[break][break]

But then Mila did something to dash all those thoughts on sharp rocks: she immediately approached paxton concordas and struck up a conversation with him.[break][break]

Gunner tore his gaze away to look for the nearest bar, catching sight of it in the same instance he saw PENELOPE LIVY step away from another group. He saw the flicker of emotion entering her face and knew at once he could not stand idle.[break][break]

"Excuse me, gentlemen," he said to Navy and Kazimir before heading to the bar. To the waiting bartender, he said, "Two Martinezes, please."[break][break]

With the vermouth-and-gin drinks in hand, Gunner strode with purpose up to the trio making small talk and inserted himself between Paxton and Penelope.[break][break]
