The bicycle's wheels clattered against the evenly placed bricks that Howard's Stakataka had laid down for him. Normally, he would've ridden it on the road with minimal complaint, but the road was full of corrupted Ariados and people poisoned by the Toxic Chain. Sometimes, it was best to take the high road in life.

Literally, in this case.

His Stakataka used Magnet Rise to float high above the area so that it could create a floating road towards its master's destination. As Howard's bike rolled over bricks, they would float to the front of the road for the cycle to continuously repeat.

The communicators of the other Nebula members squawked as Howard pressed his lip to it.

"Admin Fox." , , and , should they decide to appear heard a voice from their radios. Howard got off his bike and allowed it to fly off the bricks onto an Ariados below. It let out a shriek as it was struck.

Ring ring!

"I have arrived." Howard checked his watch as he felt a wave of nausea. He resisted the urge to vomit as he observed the situation. The Toxic Chan had continued to spread. What an utter disaster. The more they tried to stamp it out, the more it spread. This wasn't a big shock to the admin, though. Sicknesses flourished when ignored for a long time.

This was just another contagion.

"Book 'em." Howard sat down on his floating construct as individual bricks deactivated their Magnet Rise to fall onto the heads of unsuspecting Ariados. Howard wasn't getting any closer to the infected than he needed to.

“Feels like Ollie got me in the end, huh Roland?” Navy’s Iron Valiant says nothing. He has never been, as a rule, much of a talker. Roland has always been a creature of action. While Navy makes his jokes, Roland jumps about and slices folk free. One precise cut slices the webbing open right down the middle, never so much as scratching those beneath.[break][break]
“Anyone ever tell you you’re good with that thing?” A small joke to lighten up the atmosphere. Roland doesn’t laugh. He’s too busy problem solving, one web or Ariados at a time. The creatures try to sneak up on the pair while they make their way up Cycling Road. Between Navy’s old gumshoe instincts and Roland’s warrior intuition, none manage to get close. The Pokemon fall. The human and his living paradox press on.[break][break]
“Ugh…” Somewhere along the way is a rest area. Without realizing what he’s doing, Navy slumps onto the bench. Fatigue is getting to him. With all the troubles in the region, it catches up to him. Saving the day is a thankless job, and it takes a hefty toll on the body.[break][break]
Muscles ache. Pinched nerves cry out in pain. Old wounds feel like they are about to open. Beneath it all is nausea. Resting, even if just for a few seconds, feels good.[break][break]
It nearly costs him as more Ariados drop down. Roland’s keen blade proves his salvation. Even if Navy let his guard down, the iron knight never did.[break][break]
“Thanks.” The warrior cracks his knuckles, ready to press on.[break][break]
Roland does not follow.[break][break]
“What’s up?” Navy asks. Just after asking the question, he follows it up with another. “You worried about me?”[break][break]
Roland nods.[break][break]
“Just a busy year. I’ll be fine. Come on, there’s plenty of work left to do.”[break][break]
Roland hesitates, and then follows.

By the time you arrive to the scene of the infestation, you're already far too late to do anything about it.

Just another unfortunate consequence of your injuries. When news of the outbreak arrived to the Rocket Submarine, you were in the middle of a fairly extensive bout of plastic surgery. Even if you weren't swimming in anesthasia, what were you supposed to do? Rush out in the middle of the procedure and come back when you were done so they could finish it? No, it might feel bad, but it was the right move to sit this one out.

So why does it feel so wrong?

You look around Route 110. Loose threads lay scattered across the ground, the remnants of the webs that were severed and left inert. Without a Toxic Chain, they probably don't pose much threat, but, well, it's better to be safe than sorry, right?

"Salandit, Flamethrower."

"R-Right!"

As the Salandit's fire incinerates the scattered string, you grit your teeth. You'll be ready for the next one. You have to be. Because...

Following up on a trail of footprints that he heralded all the way from Sootopolis, it isn't Jayden's intention to be caught up in this swarm. He's following a set of clues listed for him by his intel — on the way to tracking and hunt him down. However, the ARIADOS block his way, hissing and sputtering, their TOXIC CHAINS exuding a poisonous aura that smells faintly of pecha berries. For some reason, it makes his stomach turn in an unmistakable way.

[break][break] 'Not again,' he thinks. Ice crystallizes around his arm, protected by his Klefki's SAFEGUARD among other things.

[break][break] Beneath him, his Hisuian Arcanine opens it's maw and cauterizes the blockage with a FLAMETHROWER. The Cursed is quick to veer away from the damage, leaping across the toxic pools, and continuing down their path.

So much for getting his exercise in. Beau couldn't believe it - more enraged pokemon, and more of these gross chain things growing out of them. He hated going on the attack, but the simple fact was there was no way to save these pokemon or the victims of their webs without it, so he only cringed a little as Torben delivered a NIGHT SLASH that left an ugly slice down the side of an Ariados, but also caused the Toxic Chain it sported to dissolve, just like the other pokemon he'd dealt with lately.

"Torben, brah, come here! Help me out, be careful!" Beau beckoned the bear over to a writhing cocoon of web, and the Pangoro's claws carefully sliced through the layer of webbing. A dazed cyclist emerged, and Beau helped him to his feet. As soon as he was sure the webbed man was in the hands of a trained professional to see whether there was any poison to worry about or not, he swayed unsteadily on his feet, leaning on Torben for a moment before shaking his head and sluggishly moving to the next spider.

The seaside Cycling Road was teeming with Ariados which made the cyclists all turn away from using the road for their bicycling. When the ambassador and her two Pokemon see the swarm of Ariados, the Galarian royal immediately freezes in place. She stands frozen in fear as the Ariados come towards her now as the terrible childhood memory flashes into her mind.[break][break]

Charles uses Heal Pulse to calm her down while Cecily the Cyndaquil gets to work in using Flamethrower on the Ariados. The flames from the Cyndaquil’s mouth shoot out as it burns the Ariados and the bug type Pokemon end up moving back from approaching the Galarian royal.

“Ah shit,” she huffed, anxiously tapping her fingers against the pokeballs at her waist as she watched the squirming form of pokemon and trainers alike trapped in the webbing and toxic threads of the volatile Ariados.

“Priority one, get those trainers and pokemon out of the webbing, then we incinerate it,” she clenched a fist and cast if forward, sending the Doublade into the fray with their steely, sharp edges gleaming, “Cut ‘em down!”

fire spreads outside the cycling road's outskirts, using up toxic threads from poisonous bug-types as fuel while simultaneously releasing fumes in the air.

kyle covers his nose as a scene reminiscent to the megalopolan's attempt to takeover hoenn unfolds before him. instead of poisonous gastric acid from guzzlord and naganadel, they are contending with buffed ariados poison, most of which have now turned to toxic smog.

his arcanine continues to use flamethrower at each clump of web left by the pokemon infected by the toxic chain while most of the volunteers choose to dispatch these wild pokemon or save whoever needed to be saved.

a cough escapes him. he takes out a phone to make a note for himself: bring face masks next time.

KAGUTSUCHI purges the TOXIC CHAINS from the ARIADOS with a roaring FLAMETHROWER. The spiders scatter in all directions frantically to try and avoid it. The lucky ones manage to crawl beneath the bridge for shelter.[break][break]

In the meantime, finds himself struggling to escape a web as the flames close in around him. One of the Ariados prepares to lunge toward him mid-struggle, however, and he is forced to ready a LIGHTNING BOLT with his free hand before casting it. Just as it leaps, the spider is struck down with a thunderous clap.[break][break]

The TURTONATOR doesn't notice its trainer is on the brink of being burned alive. Though Remiel tries to capture its attention, it is in a battle frenzy. Ultimately, he TELEPORTS out of his predicament before reappearing on the other side of the conflict. The fight doesn't end there, however.[break][break]

Another bug infestation had appeared, this time in Cycling Road. Immediately responding to the scene, Noel appears to find it a silky mess with dangling ensnared bodies and objects like something out of a horror movie. He would set out to try and free them, but an Ariados blocks his path, the toxic chains driving them mad and turning them against the first person they see.[break][break]

It tries to shoot off its web to capture the trainer, but he releases his Braixen out in front of him to reflect the move with a Light Screen. Then the fire-fox returns the action with a Flamethrower shot straight out of its wand, landing a direct hit on the giant spider. Easily does it fall, fainted and burnt down. That was one issue dealt with, now to go and save whoever were trapped inside these cocoons.[break][break]

However he stops for a moment. An unease creeps throughout his body, almost enough to make him hurl. But he pushes it all back down, maybe it was just the exhaustion he was feeling from having to fight day after day to these sudden outbreaks, or maybe it was something far worse. It didn't matter though, for now he would put all his focus on the now and to calm down these Ariados and free these people and Pokemon.

Ariados had a bit of a reputation as they tended to freak people out, but the uptick in attacks was cementing the terror surrounding them in the minds of many. "Shock 'em," she instructed, and Toxtricity obliged, electrocuting the webs near him. Meanwhile, Sinistea floated high to cut webs off and force the descending Ariados to the ground, where they met Snorlax and his hammer arm and crunch attacks. The trio of pokemon worked in tandem to rid the immediate area of bugs...

But Robin couldn't shake the dizziness she was feeling. She fought nausea. "Um, keep going guys." Her encouragement was fainter this time, catching the attention of her empathetic ghost. Sinistea came down and chimed at her to settle down. She took a seat on the ground and watched as her team continued to carry the effort.

The Cadet of the Pokemon Rangers stared in horror at the twisted scene laid out before him. Once a vibrant path leading into Mauville City's embrace, the Seaside Cycling Road now laid strewn with chaos at every turn. Rescue personnel, panicked pedestrians, and crazed Ariados covered the road. Bicycles, humans, and pokemon alike remained trapped in the maze of webs. If Michael didn't know better, he would believe he was trapped in an arachnophobe's nightmare.

The Ranger was at least thankful to not be the only responder at the wicked webbing disaster. He held concern for everyone involved, including the swarming Ariados. This wasn't normal behavior for them. Fighting them and pushing them back was one option that some on the scene took upon themselves. Others focused efforts on freeing the frightened victims.

"Here's the plan, Eimyrja," Michael began, his eyes affixing on the intricate webs before them. "Using fire is too risky. Webbing can be flammable, and we don't want to hurt those who are trapped! Let's free as many as we can with Slash!"

"Char Char!" the Charmander called, baring her claws before charging at the nearest entanglement!

With a quick movement, her claws sliced through the webbing. All the while, Michael kept an eye out in case any encroaching Ariados thought to make them into their next prey.

The outbreak wasn't a particularly hard one to deal with, but something about it still made Eddie feel uneasy. [break][break]

Beau sent another Ariados flying with a well-timed Aqua Jet, catching one of the oversized spiders as it leapt over the railing along the western side of the Cycling Road. Eddie grimaced in spite of the victory; something vile sat in his gut, like the onset of some kind of infection. He wiped the sweat from his brow, suddenly feeling feverish, [break][break]

“Beau,” he managed, swallowing hard, “We, uh, gotta get outta here, buddy.” [break][break]

The bull turned back with an expression of concern. Eddie suddenly felt faint; before he could fall to the hard ground, the Tauros galloped up to catch the man against his side. Eddie nuzzled against the black fur there and sighed with exhaustion, [break][break]

“Thanks, man.” [break][break]

With a little maneuvering, Eddie let Beau lead him away from the bike trail, an arm slumped across the bull's back as he leaned heavily against the Pokemon's flank. He was coming down with something, the man thought, careful to keep his knees from giving out from under him. [break][break]

Exploring for wild pokemon native to the area surrounding Mauville was, once again, not exactly going in Atreyu's favor. He was looking forward to a little field work alone with his pokemon, but that would've been too easy an afternoon, wouldn't it?

The ecologist stared at the scene with unblinking eyes, trying to wrap his head around the situation at hand. A swarm of Ariados; trapped pokemon and civilians; more of the Toxic Chains he was slowly learning more and more about. Was someone orchestrating this? Was something larger at play here and these were just diversions? Trey felt like that may be the case, but regardless, considering he was already here, he might as well try to do something about it.

Trey felt strange, though. He wasn't usually so... apathetic. Was stress starting to weigh him down?

Two flashes of red light revealed an Absol and Fraxure, Indigo walking up to Trey's side while Riot stomped up to one of the webs immediately. Good—that was the order of operations that he wanted. "Riot! Use Dragon Claw on the webs," Trey said, giving the Fraxure a salute sendoff. The dragon type growled and began hacking at a larger web with a bicycle stuck in it, the bike's frame wobbling and venturing closer to the ground with each swipe. For Indigo, however...

As Trey expected, an Ariados was drawn over by the vibration from the webs, hissing as it spotted Riot and attempted to jump him. Right as it launched, Trey interrupted with a "Now, Indigo: Night Slash," and the Absol obeyed, swinging its head in a sideways arc that sent a glowing purple scythe from its horn towards the Ariados, catching the bug mid-leap and knocking it away before it could sink its fangs into the Fraxure. The spider was thrown into another web, but it descended with ease, facing Indigo with a glint in its eye that meant more trouble.

"Try to aim for the Toxic Chain if you can," he suggested to Indigo, staring at the segmented purple lasso with both curiosity and ire. This all had to be part of a bigger picture—surely these events weren't entirely so isolated. If someone could just find the source...

As another Night Slash was sent hurling towards the Ariados, a cold sweat made the back of Atreyu's neck tacky, a faint haze starting to affect his vision. He glowered, tugging his shirt over the bridge of his nose to suddenly protect his face. Was this stuff going airborne too?
