Every which way, disoriented infected civillians stumble about. These Toxic Chains were a piece of work to say the least, with the effects they seemed to have on different pokemon and people alike...

... Although, they did wish that their stomach could stop roiling whenever they got within proximity of these incidents.

At the very least, they had Heal Bells from Tsukiko to help keep the situation under control, and perhaps heal multiple civillians at once...

Hideo munched on a Lava Cookie as his Hatterene went to work, putting her skills as a Healer to use as she helped several villagers settle down, Heal Pulses being thrown left and right.

Including Hideo himself.

She'd taken notice of his unsteady movements as they walked around the village, and forced him to be one of her patients, caring for him like the villagers they were here to help. It felt demeaning, unbecoming of his role as a Gym Leader - but Hideo knew the consequences of not listening to his Hatterene.

Even if he wasn't in the same sorry condition as the villagers here. It even sounded like some of them were vomiting…he'd only felt that bad when he'd tried to help with the Weezing swarm.

These past few weeks have been chaotic and concerning. Poisoned Pokemon and strange chains were wreaking havoc on the region. Her police radio was going off constantly. Lydia could not remember the last time she felt so needed.

‘Lavaport is reporting a string of strange chains. People seem to be affected by a strange sickness.”

Today, however, there was a strange roiling in her gunt. The lights of her windows punched through her eyes like spikes. It reminded her of the handful of times—post service—she’d been hungover. Trying to shake off the feeling, the veteran rolled to her feet. After a moment of unsteadiness, she managed to pull on her clothes. Her bad shoulder protected as she did so.

A few hours later, she and two of her Pokemon stood at the town’s border. Her Gallade was on her left and the ever-present Minerva on her right. After a brief moment, they approached a group of worried civilians. “Get back,” Lydia’s voice is one of command. “We will handle this.” One of the toxic individuals staggered toward her. She dances around him.

The Gallade steps in. "Go!" His psychic powers grab the toxic chain and use it to tug the nearest afflicted around.After a few moments of work, he manages to tease the chains apart. Lydia does not get to praise him, however.

There’s a poisoned Avalugg charging toward her. Its transparent ice is tainted purple. Minerva strafed right as Lydia charged forward. A knife appeared from her belt as she slid underneath it, aiming to slice through its Toxic Chain..

These Toxic invasions were starting to become way too frequent for Thea's taste, and it almost seemed like everywhere she went to, one of these things were happening... She could feel a tingle of weakness trailing in her body, which was perhaps a side effect of the Arbok's venom she was afflicted with. Thankfully Lutgarde was there to save her, otherwise... She didn't even want to think of the consequences.[break][break]

But not many were as lucky as her, and when she noticed many dizzy victims were helpless, she was quick to get on action. "Zeus, cover us! Belle, help me with these people!" Thea orchestrated her Pokémon with calls and orders, trying to bring as many people as she could to safety. She placed down a civilian, resting a hand over their forehead, right underneath the Toxic Chain. "... It is hot..." She pursed her lips, reaching for her bag and drawing antidotes, lava cookies and other first aid tools she had with her, just in case, as she usually went deep into the wilds.[break][break]

"You will be okay." She muttered to the civilian that was slowly recovering, but she couldn't help but frown at the Toxic Chain. The other Pokémons had it too, and it was clear that they were anomalous compared to their peers. "... They probably already know about it... But I should send a letter to the League to point this out." She sighed. Maybe her father could help her with it.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Belle kept bringing more dizzy towsfolk to Thea, giving them a Helping Hand, and Zeus fought back against the Toxic Chained Pokémon with his Stomping Tantrum, sending earth and dirt at them, which he hoped that would suppress the poison.[break][break]

As things went through... Thea noticed a familiar face from afar.[break][break]

Wait... Was that Knight?![break][break]

Thea's heart nearly leaped out of her chest when she noticed, and she thrusted her hand forward, calling for her Pokémon for an attack. "Gominha, clear the way!" She said, and so the Wigglytuff did, charging ahead and using her Hyper Voice to disrupt the Pokémons that were toxic chained.[break][break]

Eddie was having some terrible, terrible flashbacks to his early twenties. [break][break]

He watched a couple of the most recent mochi-addled victims stumble around like a pair of drunk frat boys, one man with his arm slung over the shoulders of the other, the both of them ambling from left to right until one of them stopped to retch into a nearby bush. Eddie was almost positive that he'd been in that exact state before, stumbling around the streets of Cascarrafa with a belly full of the most vile bottom-shelf vodka that his pocket change could buy. This was a terrible fate, one he wouldn't wish upon his worse enemy, [break][break]

“'Scuse me, fellas, but couldja hold still for just a second?” he cautiously began as he approached. [break][break]

Batou was a little cautious in his approach as well, and Eddie could see the Lucario flinch a little as retching-man continued to try and purge a stomach that had long since been emptied. The other man looked up with quizzical, watery eyes, squinting as he tried to discern Eddie's intentions. [break][break]

“Patch 'em up, buddy.” [break][break]

With a bark of acknowledgement, the Lucario began to glow with a soothing halo of light, holding his paws to his chest and bowing his head as though in reverent prayer. Batou suddenly snapped his head up and thrust his arms forward, palms (paws?) out, channeling the light to bathe the two Lavaridge locals in a luminous pink glow. [break][break]

The effect was almost immediate. As the light dissipated, the chains binding the two disintegrated into plumes of twinkling purple dust, and the man neck-deep in the nearby foliage suddenly sprung up with newfound vigor. [break][break]

Eddie didn't stick around to accept their thanks; there were plenty more people to cure, though he now wondered if he too could benefit from a heal pulse the next time he had too much to drink.[break][break]

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]The bustle of the triage tent becomes too much for Greyson as he pushes the flap back and steps out. The early wind of spring cools sweat slicked skin and Greyson sighs in both exhaustion, and relief.

A comfey flutters on that breeze to hover next to him. Smiling, he curls his index finger and pets the soft creature. Her squeaks in curiosity and tilts to float down to the ground. Two sets of tracks in the mud — TWO-TOED and dry. They could've been as old as the first reports hitting the League scanner.

"Hm. What did you find here?"

Taking the phone from his pocket he snaps a couple pictures, sending them to the likes of Eva Morales, illeana reyes, ollie morales and even PENELOPE LIVY.

Perhaps they could identify these quicker than he could?

To make matters more interesting situated next to the tracks was one of these 'Mochis'. Taking a glove from his other pocket, he picks the strange material up and, peeling the glove back to cover it entirely, returns it to his pocket.

It was spreading faster and faster across Hoenn. A fastidious infection that now seemed like a pandemic. Lavardige was next to blink across her screen.

“Ugh, damn it!” she slammed the laptop shut and reluctantly rose to follow the trail of the TOXIC CHAINS to the volcano-side city.

The hostile pokemon wrapped in the noxious chains were the same, as always. At least they were predictable. They attacked without prejudice, sometimes even going after their own, dizzy trainers. Lavaridge’s outbreak harbored quite different clinical signs than the previous. She studies them from a distance first, scribbling notes across her tablet in a hurry before dictating her thoughts to her RotomPhone.

“Subjects seem to be demonstrating signs of vertigo. This particular strain of toxin seems to be affecting the vestibular system. Both trainers and pokemon are wrapped in TOXIC CHAINS but the effect varies. Pokemon remain hostile and unpredictable. The human’s loss of vestibular equilibrium causes expected clinical signs of dizziness and nausea, resulting in expected physiologic responses like vomiting and trauma secondary to falling or crashing into stationary objects.

Eva sent Blade and her Blissey out with HEAL PULSES to try and stabilize the patients while officers and rangers fought off the hostile pokemon. There were too many affected townspeople to tackle this alone so she sends the following to the present League volunteers, Officers, and Rangers.

LAVARIDGE OUTBREAK

A TOXIC CHAINS outbreak has struck Lavaridge. Pokemon are demonstrating similar clinical signs of hostility. Approach with caution and proceed with removal of the TOXIC CHAINS expeditiously.

Affected trainers have been struck by a severe case of vestibular syndrome. Clinical signs include extreme loss of equilibrium resulting in nausea, vomiting, trauma, confusion, and mental distress.

Prioritize stabilization via the use of CALMING moves so that you may remove the TOXIC CHAINS. HEAL PULSE appears to be effective in temporarily relieving symptoms. Supportive care with antiemetics, pain medications, and treating secondary traumas can then be used. Severe trauma should be transferred to the nearest hospital ONLY AFTER removal of the TOXIC CHAINS.

Tempest hums and lifts a camera to his eye, snapping quick shots when he can. It's not a fancy one; a cheap disposable made mostly of plastic. With all the electrical disturbances that could happen in Hoenn, it seemed better to go low tech. He would hand these over to Naomi Sato and Amor Rose later, as well as howard slayte. The photos, when developed, might provide some information for the various reports he knew that Rocket would field after this.[break][break]

His Espeon is at his side, the Pokerus infected pokemon bouncing with energy. She uses her mind to keep the more aggressive pokemon and people away. But they make no move to heal or help, only observing from where they were half hidden.[break][break]

"This is all fucked."[break][break]

Watching the people, feeling his own coils of sickness in his gut, it made him a little nervous.

The varrying affects of the toxic chains on those who had become afflicted by the toxins were startling. Where thus far the chains proved to make those under their influence more hostile in nature, unaware of themselves and attacking without question, this was entirely different. Those who had succumbed to the chains in Lavaridge were nearly deathly ill, the poisons seeping into them and making them sick beyond belief.[break][break]
It wasn't much, but Yuina worked to do what she could without having many other influences, trying to alleviate as many individuals as she could with her Slowking's Heal Pulse. It still didn't feel like enough, even removing a chain left them unmistakeably sick, but whatever efforts could be given were going to help eventually as more officials descended into the city to work on tending to those who were affected.

"I've come to help, you'll be okay," Lutgarde tells the scared kids with a smile, their pokémon in the background making work of the Toxic Chains that are, probably, causing this bizarre behaviour all around. They call Sylph back to their side, who would take them to the ranger station nearby where they would get more help than Lutgarde could provide in this moment.

They also place Sylv atop to keep them company. Zylf remains by their side, jumping from one foot to the other, trying to lighten the mood with his antics. "Thanks," they smile, nodding towards more of the "dancers" that are approaching them slowly.

"Let's get to work."

A faint feeling of dizziness, but nothing they couldn't manage. Nothing they couldn't manage ...

He strolled toward Lavaridge Town, whistling off-key as he walked. Even though his friendship with Zev Harcourt was dead and buried, Jack hadn't lost the taste for the whiskey the man had introduced him to. Needed to stock up on another bottle, he found himself taking a scenic stroll on the way to the distillery.[break][break]

Two sets of strange, two-toed footprint caught his eye near the road and Jack slowed to get a better look. He didn't recognize the pokemon species that would have left a print like that but as he pulled out his phone to investigate, commotion ahead pulled his attention away. An older man was stumbling toward his from the town's outskirts.[break][break]

"Everything alright, sir?" Jack called out as the man stopped to retch violently into the roadway. As Jack strode closer, he noticed the toxic chain wrapped around his head. He swore, releasing his Slowking. His pokemon's heal pulse soothed the man as dissipated the chain. All thoughts of whiskey forgotten, Jack helped the shaky man back toward his home.

After the last few trips, it was no great surprise that Peaches refused to come along when help was needed in Lavaridge. The Psyduck had been stubborn, head turned in a huff as she refused to budge from the sanctity of her kiddie pool in the backyard. Leaving her to float, Lam brought along Noodle.[break][break]

But it was a good thing he’d also grabbed one of his healing pokemon too.[break][break]

The people stumbled around, ill (violently so) as more of those strange toxic chains wrapped around Pokémon and townsfolk alike. Even he started to feel a bit nauseous by it all—whether that be from the sigh and smell, or the repeated encounters with the toxic chains, he wasn’t too sure.[break][break]

A timid Ralts drifted alongside them, often hiding behind the much more outgoing shinx whenever someone sick stumbled too close. Then, peeking out, she would skitter forward, small hands lifting to offer a HEAL PULSE that eased the illness and slowly began to bring the individual back to their senses.[break][break]

At one point, she must have senses Lam’s own queasiness and reached up with a sudden bout of confidence. Tugging his hand to offer him the same comfort. “Aw, thanks,” he cooed, reaching down to pat her head. “That helped a lot— let’s see if anyone else needs a hand.”

The ambassador rides by horseback on her Glastrier while her Calyrex catches up with her to Lavaridge Town. Her ranger comms tell her that Lavaridge Town’s residents are affected by the poisoned mochi, but they are not exhibiting the telltale symptoms. Rather, the townsfolk are throwing up bile and are generally sick from the poison.[break][break]

Elise remembers to take his first aid kit for these kinds of situations and when the Glastrier stops in the middle of the town, she dismounts from the ice horse to begin treating one of the female residents, a dizzied older woman in her 50’s. Charles floats beside her to see the royal medic do her job.[break][break]

“I’d like you to use Heal Pulse please.” Elise asks the High King to do his share of the medical work as he’ll release a soothing Heal Pulse to heal the elderly woman. In turn, the royal ambassador takes out a small cup and some medicine to help with countering the effects of the poison where she pours the amount needed and gives it to the older woman.[break][break]

Luckily, the elderly woman feels much better in drinking the medicine from the cup and Elise and Charles keep checking the other residents and give them medical care to help with their vomiting.

"What in the world?" He muttered with a measure of disgusted awe, coming closer to the chained, thrashing, pokemon as his numerous Aegislash held it down.

It looked... odd. Much like the civilians puking their guts out all around the city, a veil of vile could be found on it in one place or another— but... this solid coating of purple, crystallized... poison?

Wordlessly, the man produced a pokeball from his belt, frowning. It was best they sent this to a study lab, stat.

TL;DR:
-if your character has participated in AT LEAST 3 POISON PATROLS, they may feel slightly unwell during this patrol; furthermore, your character may be able to discern that the TOXIC CHAINS do corrupt and imbue Pokemon with unique abilities...

Thomas and Bunni came into the town on a house call. Instead, they stumble into Lavaridge Town, just as an outbreak of Toxic Chains claim a part of the town. While the Pokemon are hostile, the civilians seemed to have just been rendered ill.

Thankfully, Bunni is well equipped for the job, being a natural born Healer. Using her Heal Pulses, the Audino begins to provide relief to the ailing civilians. When they're taken care of, they're subject to further medical treatment, despite the Toxic Chains dissipating from them.

Like Remiel Calcifet, Thomas finds a set of particular, two-toed footprints, in a different location. Unlike the incident with the Venusaur, Thomas found himself in a much more comfortable position to create a cast of the footprints. The Kalosian took a picture of the footprints, should the cast be ruined.
