Thread summary:
Within the heavy fog that overtakes Petalburg Woods, many mysteries lie. Is Lia being stalked by some creeper like in a scene right out of a True Crime podcast episode? Is angelo vestri being hunted down by one of the same assassins that targeted so many at the Star Soirée? No, it’s all just a terrible misunderstanding that could have had disastrous consequences for either of them. Tension! Drama! Action! Arrows?! Knives?! Dirt?!?! …What’s not to like?

Why is it important?:
While the premise of the thread centres around a misunderstanding, it certainly has huge consequences for Lia and Angelo’s friendship, much of which is to be explored. At the same time, it’s one of the things that causes Lia to reconsider her duties as a ranger and wonder if this is the right path for her.

The thread itself mostly focuses on the action taking place, and honestly, it was really enjoyable and refreshing to get to write something like this. We had a lot of fun and Esuna’s posts are just amazing :chefskiss:

THE BURDENS WE BEAR

Serena's curry entry

thread summary: After much time spent at odds with one another the Malcolm siblings take a spontaneous trip to Mt. Pyre. Both siblings had been through so much since their time here in Hoenn. Eventually it caused strain on their relationship and threaten to fracture their sibling bond beyond repair. Just with things seemed to reaching the precipice of no return, Serena Malcolm learned of some of Adrian Malcolm's secrets. Her own having been bare to him for a while the siblings both made moves to understand one another. After all hadn't they suffered enough?

There they meet Yveltal, an unexpected visitor who weaves tales of possibility. Ones that would shake Serena's wildest dreams. How could she not be swayed when staring into the face of a god who speaks to her hearts desire?

why is it important?: This thread is the culmination of many plot points and stressors that have been on Serena for a long time. Since the beginning when she arrived in Hoenn she had great ambition. But despite having noble motives she was still taken advantage of time and time again. When she was at her weakest those she believed she could rely on the most turned her back on her. Having been well aware that the world was not a fair and just place Serena got a dose of bitter medicine the more she continued to seek power.

Due to her ignorance and naivety she paid the ultimate price by losing what was most precious to her. Was life only suffering? If so then Serena didn't want to live any longer. Thoughts such as these plagued her constantly and it seemed no one noticed. She was screaming and crying for help on the inside but no one heard. In fact, for her suffering she was rewarded with promotions and more betrayal. It seemed so long as she kept this weak mindset, no matter how much power she acquired she would be doomed to suffer the same fate over and over again. At the time of this thread she's ate her wits end.

Does she continue living this lie or does she throw it all away. Meeting with her brother, repairing the damaged bond, and receiving key information on the possibility to regain that which was lost to her, motivates her. It gives Serena the push she needed to go forward. To see there was worth to having breath still in her lungs. This is thread is the beginning of a shift in character development for Serena. While not being the defining change, it is one that results in a change of perspective in her that sets up everything that is to come after.

why is it important?: izzy is very particular in keeping his "real life" and "rocket life" separate - he feels very uncomfortable with social interaction due to his various issues, but someone like barnaby stumps him. why's he so damn nice?! what does he want?! this is a build-up to izzy slowly learning that people might actually be nice to him without wanting something in return, or just nice to him full-stop.

SNOWBOY SHOWDOWN

thread summary: The weather institute's mishap with Castform has lead to a short-lived winter wonderland near Fortree City. Festivities and games have sprung up around the unusual phenomenon, drawing in people from all over the region. Of note is the snowboy building contest, where those who build a perfect snowboy can go home with a little prize!

why is it important?: This thread was meant as a fun and festive social for characters to have some fun, and as a way to generate new character interactions and potential social links. Though perhaps not the most plot-relevant event on site, I hope that it was able to provide some silly enjoyment for people and perhaps served as a jumping-off point for new plots!

FLOURISH

thread summary: bo brings a rescued baby stantler to the atkins property in hopes that willow atkins will help care for it--and that it might be a project for the two of them. however, when willow opens up emotionally, bo unfortunately takes the opportunity to make his first move since he's returned. willow is understandably hurt by this, and asks him to leave, informing him that she is seeing someone else (LANCE VOLLANS ) and that 'this is what's best for roman' (Roman Maher ). bo ends up leaving the stantler behind, with the sentiment that he hadn't meant to 'dump her' on willow. there is symbolism at play here.

why is it important?: this thread shows that while bo is trying his hardest to become a father, he is still very flawed and not without problematic impulses or selfishness. it also highlights willow's pain, strength and resolve as a single mother trying to do what's best for her very difficult child, and navigate the frustrating complications bo has caused by coming back into their lives so casually.

thread summary: sage and MATIAS SILPH , childhood friends grown apart by many things, go on their first mission together since kanto to save a lost athlete. however, things are not great between them--though matias seems oblivious to this. information given to sage by KING WAYLAND weeks prior, regarding matias' wrongdoings of the past, have exposed him as someone she doesn't know as well as she thought she did, and here, sage finally breaks her silence to tell him to kick rocks.

why is it important?:

sage and matias knew each other from the same orphanage from before the silphs came around. sage has been in love with matias pretty much forever, and followed him into the military when she was old enough to do so, where they both met KING WAYLAND . king fell in love with sage, and while the two were never very romantically involved, a one night stand resulted in delta wayland--a child king did not know about until recently, because sage faked her death and left the war without a word to him after becoming pregnant. 

on the day of her 'death', king had been arguing with matias and did not go on the mission during which it all occurred, and he was then blamed for her passing for having not been there. matias let him take the fall, even while knowing well that his sorely grieving friend was not to blame, and that sage was still very much alive. king eventually snapped, killing most of their comrades and then turning his coat. sage, somehow, was unaware of this tragedy until coming to hoenn to arrive on matias' doorstep and profess her love to him, at which time she was informed of 1) his engagement to Eva Morales , and 2) the deaths of nearly her entire platoon at the hand of the father of her child. it had been five years, and he hadn't reached out to tell her, and according to king, who is still out there and dangerous, it had been matias who had ostracized and pushed him to his breaking point.

SO, fast forward to this thread: it's important because sage has been in love with matias this entire time, and she finally realizes that she shouldn't be, because he's mean. she decides that she needs a new outlook and purpose, and this sort of acts as the opening for her vigilante arc.

[break][break]thread summary: pace, two years after disappearing from the sinnoh syndicate, bumps into his old, dearest friend Martín del Mar . considering he left because he knew they were going to murder mars' wife and unborn child, there's a lot for them to talk about.
[break][break]why is it important?: pace is selfish and prideful, caring very little about people other than himself, but things are different with mars because they've known one another for years and have shared parts of themselves with each other (and with mars' ex-wife) that they hadn't shared with anybody else. pace is learning that sometimes when you make a decision to save your own ass and take the easy way out, the people you hurt don't forgive you. this thread lays some foundations for pace learning that he can't use people and leave them like he always has, and that sometimes actions have consequences.

why is it important?: While most of the threads I would've rather submitted either started before November or are still ongoing, this thread ended up being a nice, warm ending to Locke's recent string of bad luck (Star Soiree, Jynx, Package for POG, YMCA Raid + Red Route Conclusion). The last few posts with Eris Halla were particularly nice after all the trauma they've been through together lately.

thread summary: Thanks to a wonderful mishap, snow has coated the grounds neat route 119 and as such all sorts of people have gathered to enjoy in the rare snow but making snowboys and having snowballs fights.
why is it important?:

Ever since the events of chance meetings , Andres has been ghosting luka chêne for no good reason other than his own inability to face the consequences of his own actions. Up until that point, he had been on friendly terms with her, teasing and assisting her the little bit he saw her. And while she was pretty, he had decided he wouldn't cross that line with her. Until he did. Afraid she might get too close for comfort, he made her breakfast in bed and then never contacted her since. It's been months, and he still hadn't worked up the nerve to speak to her...until accidentally finding her here. He spent the entire thread running away and hiding from her only to get his ass beat by illeana reyes in a brilliant show of Karma. All this is enough to make Andres reflect a little on his actions, but not enough to make him confront Luka to apologize.

thread summary: A nice night gathered around the campgrounds sponsored by the Rangers as everyone tries to keep a bonfire going and share snacks.
why is it important?:
Paxton has a hard time socializing, and tends to overwork himself to exhaustion instead of hanging out with his coworkers. He's become rather withdrawn, with good reason, but in an effort to follow the good advice of his therapist, has decided to try to mingle more. While not very vocal, he found himself enjoying the presence of many others and their antics, even going so far as to make a new, tentative friend in Locke Jamison . Or at the very least, a friendly acquaintance he didn't meet through work.

BONFIRE BONDINGS

thread summary: an autumn get-together megathread for the many citizens/inhabitants of hoenn to practice their survival skills in a light-hearted manner. derek was the main ranger on site (on duty), ensuring the surrounding area was free of pesky bears/pokemon that might want to fight over campfire food/warmth.


why is it important?: it's not. besides derek's ic job being fulfilled in the slightest manner, this didn't help push the main site storyline, nor did it edge derek's personal story forward.

i'm hard pressed to think of what thread of mine would be "important", as with the given timeline most everything i have done is missions to reach 100% infamy. what's important to derek rn is changing his public image. the infamy has done that in some ways, but tangibly there is nothing to speak for it. will be planning to do better once i get some of these new year threads/plots going & lock into a method to promote ranger stuffs. and maybe get in on the regi-business that's taken place :evilrondo:
