why is it important?:
While extremely proud and grateful for his promotion, it still stands as a surprise to him. Mint had doubled down in his work for Rocket since, doing his best to find use for his niche talents. He hasn't fallen into his position yet, nervous about doing well and juggling with maintaining professional relationships with not just his higher ups but also subordinates. He is easy going by nature, and wants to get along but that clashes sometimes with the hierarchy structure of Rocket.
On top of that, Mint's own insecurities with his position have led to doubts about his own work productivity and paranoia he's been looked down upon, even by fellow friends and acquaintances. This reaches a boil during SPECTRA: TRINITY TRIALS, with former gossip monger @tempest, ho's presence he perceived as a strange exception. AS well as opinions out of turn. When interrupted, he gives a warning and when ignored he snaps. All the emotions and negativity inside the pressure cooker of his head coming to the forefront. It doesn't end well.
Finally the pair end up in the same training room and while Tempest does his best to bow out gracefully, Mint picks a fight feeling he is being looked down on again. However, even when Tempest refuses to fight back he goes on. They, verbally, go at each others throats cutting deep and pulling at insecurity after insecurity until Mint tries to explain what he's really angry about as does Temp. Neither budges, and unfortunately this is a relationship that isn't strong enough to survive this kind of conflict. Mint resigns himself to potential off the books meeting with Cillian Quinn after what he's done to Temp, and seeks out BARNABY FINCH for more advice on controlling his emotions. Tempest resigns himself to the medbay, and they both watch their would be friendship wither away.
tl;dr himbo-twink relations have taken a massive downturn.
I like this thread since it digs at a little more of Mint's mental state especially since it's set right before GOODBYE GALAR, where due to his insecurities he seeks out bad companionship in bryan delarosa. It's a foundation of negativity that sets Mint up for failure during UNTANGLED with jayden cross ( a thread which only served to heighten his concerns now that he knows Jayden's reputation is on the line kinda ).
It's just a fun little heehee haha that is pushing Mint deeper into Rocket as he sees them as an entity to impress.
